| I've had Youtube issues on both Comcast and AT&T U-verse. Randomly once and awhile videos would be horribly slow loading and would constantly buffer even on 240p. It's on and off though and doesn't occur too often. So it's not a AT&T specific issue I believe. Tracing route to youtube-ui.l.google.com [74.125.226.195] over a maximum of 30 hops:

said by Dennis:said by rickincali:Sane issue for me. Connected via cable or wifi the videos freeze and are all choppy. I connect to my work VPN and they play without issue. I think this is the final straw that I have been waiting for to change providers. If you are experiencing this issue I'd like to ask that you please include a traceroute. It will really help in narrowing down any common points. A wireshark packet capture would be even better. I cannot recreate an issue here in Chicago on my personal Uverse line but I only watched one video since I don't know what specific one is being played. So: 1. Traceroute 2. Date/Time first noticed 3. Video that exhibits the issue. Im in the chicago area as well. Started noticing the problem on the 15th of february. I had no issues earlier today but then the non stop buffering started up once again at about 3pm cst. It seems to happen with most videos on youtube. | reply to HelpPlz It's probably not worth it to call AT&T because all you'll get is some mindless drone who will read from a script how to reboot your RG or computer or some other useless solution. The best chance we have is hoping that someone from AT&T, who can actually escalate this issue, reads these posts. Or maybe we could bitch to Google/YouTube and they'll light a fire under AT&T's lazy ass. |

Or maybe we could bitch to Google/YouTube and they'll light a fire under AT&T's lazy ass. Well that's what makes this so hard to troubleshoot. I've been watching 720p and 1080p files on my Chicago based Uverse line all morning and haven't been able to reproduce it. It's not a case of laziness really.
Add to that people from multiple geographic area's commenting on the issue (which generally rules out routing issues) and multiple ISP's also complaining it makes it a very hard issue to pinpoint.
Probably should start tracking the type of CPE/RG I have a 2wire 3801 and can't reproduce the issue. Some random posts have said disabling IPv6 but it was clearly for a motorola CPE.

| reply to bludgeons said by bludgeons :I attached a pcapng file from wireshark. Im not familiar at all with the program so hopefully it is what you are looking for. Thank you very much. Sadly without knowing your BAN I can't verify you don't have a line issue but that pcap does show that the core issue caused by TCP packet retransmissions and dup's. That doesn't really isolate where exactly but it does help us rule out a few other possible issues. -- My Blog. Because I desperately need the acknowledgement of others.

 | reply to HelpPlz Youtube has been sucking a lot for me lately (and I'm on FIOS!). I don't even try to watch at 1080p, and lately 720p and even 480p have been unreliable to load fast enough to watch without buffering. |
