Re: Im Here To Defend Roger's Hitron Modem/Router

I am confused. What does your rig, and internal networking equipment have to do with the ISP. There is little to no change between ISP that would have any issue with any high end gear. There is no special high end gear for a Rogers modem. Its over priced garbage for the most part. Routers and devices never need to be changed.

there should be zero teardown outside of 1 device. You unplug the modem, plug in new one, and restart your internal router. Everything programmed into routers and computers beyond the modem will stay the same. The only thing that changes is
a) the modem hardware
b) your provider
c) your external IP address.

if I missed something please let me know, I am confused.

I still have an almost new Mint condition $100 DPC-2100 sitting in my closet. I'm not about to add my current Cisco D3 to the pile.

I thought I made myself REAL CLEAR. I'm not about to spend hundreds more on a NEW MODEM, activation fees etc compatible with a NEW ISP at this point in time.

I like what I have, how it's set up and the way it works. Once the CRTC releases the new CBB later this week and the TPIA post their new tiers MAYBE (just maybe) my decision will change.

Ya need to take the total cost into consideration when deciding which ISP to run with.

Well, you didn't make yourself clear, which is why I asked. When someone speaks to me on high end gear, and mentions the word thousands $$$, that's how I read it, not some $100 POS modem.

don't thrash the modem because of your cheap smartphones.

Was that the iPhone of yours you had to pay all that money for to get out of your Rogers contract?

I have the Hitron (not exactly sure which model) and I've had it for less than a month. I have it in my living room. Less than 20' away from my mac book..and I get 60% signal. I checked on my wife's Playbook, I get about 55% (using the WiFi tool in the Playbook) and I'm sitting in the same place.

I plugged in my $20 router, and I get 100%, no issues.

I have changed this thing twice now to see about getting a newer model, and nothing has changed. I changed from the Cisco modem which was even worse.

I love on the Rogers site it says no dead zones, when clearly I'm 40' away in my bedroom and I cant use it.

So yes, in my experience, the WiFi on the Hitron modems does suck.

on the older hitron's devices at least if you have any wireless G devices connected the network dies.... literally. I turned it into a bridge and got a tp-link 3600 and couldn't be happier.

I will admit though it does good wired.

the Hitron CGN2-ROG router/modem is great in bridge mode lol, never actually used its routing and wireless features, using my homemade pfsense router/firewall and linksys wrt54g-tm for wireless connections
