Sprint not intercepting DNS on 4G Wimax?

i'm not sure if i'm reading this correctly, can anyone else confirm that Sprint is NOT intercepting DNS requests over their 4G Wimax service?

i checked the GRC website for the test there and it seemed to indicate that OpenDNS was working for me even though i hadn't set it to port 5353 as recommended elsewhere.

i read elsewhere about some kind of "transparent proxy" being used by many ISPs to grab DNS requests so i'm not sure if i'm understanding this correctly though.

i would like to be able to use Acrylic + hosts file along with just some random DNS service that doesn't filter like OpenDNS does for now.

Depends on the location with wimax... most wimax did not have the blind dns proxy... but some areas do.

Sounds like you are in an area that does not blindly proxy the dns on wimax so you should be able to use any dns provider... if the wimax drops and you revert to cdma/evdo the dns will be blindly proxied again and whatever you have set in acrylic on standard ports will revert to sprint's dns servers.

Thanks Dib. Are you still running that Acrylic DNS Proxy? I have been trying it for a few days now and its pretty cool except it doesn't seem to work with the optimized hosts file format that HostsMan creates, with nine entries per line i think. Or maybe i have the config file set up incorrectly.

Would be awesome to have an all rolled into one program that handled domains blocking, IP blocking, as well as an easy way to add/delete/whitelist domains and IP ranges to the list along with downloading the various blocklists and hosts file from the internet. for now i'm trying to use + learn Acrylic, Acrylic Monitor, PeerBlock, HostMan, and BlueLife Hosts Editor and DNSJumper too.

I do not, I keep the installer on my machine incase I need it, but generally I am VPNed to my work place or my home vpn server, so I get around most of the carriers weirdness

Good idea... maybe toss in a SSL cert verification module if you are writing it

haha, won't be me writing anything, as i couldn't even figure out how to make a batch file to run a few programs like ccleaner, bleachbit, etc and then shutdown. prob take me a few weeks to study that.

but i notice that the Acrylic Monitor lists the domains that you grab in pretty much real time, and if it has to consult the DNS server it also lists the IP address - seems like with not too much modification it could be very helpful in making personal hosts file and IP block lists. wish they would keep upgrading those programs.
