 | [Other] Finding an ISP that does not BLOCK PORT 8080, 25, 8084?? I am switching several businesses internet providers due to Comcast's current increase in port security. I would like an isp , like Charter, that does not block port 8080 and other known server ports. Charter is not available at these locations. Any recommendations? |

| reply to jakesoftware I'm surprised ports are blocked for business users, and as ds5v50 posted if they are you should be able to request they are opened for your account..
Having said that Port 25 is often blocked outbound and inbound as an anti spam measure. Email best practices is to use port 587 as it requires authentication so is not blocked. Better yet set up your email server to use SSL. This is especially important if any of your employees are road warriors as SMTP/POP send credentials in the clear allowing easy harvesting at Hotspots, not to mention eavesdropping.

Do you not have Comcast business accounts? Comcast business does not block common ports, that I know of, except, probably, the MS NetBIOS ports.
Many residential ISPs block common server ports; requiring users to get business accounts (or, as in my case, static IP blocks) for unfettered port access. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

 | reply to jakesoftware i just switched to verizon from optimum and optimum blocked EVERYTHING. i havent tested 25, but verizon doesn't block anything. i have so many services on my LAN exposed to the internet, it boggles my mind. 80, 81, 8080, 8081 for starters. 443, definitely. |

| reply to jakesoftware Comcast will remove blocking on ports if you ask them. I am on a residential connection and a simple phone call was all it took. My parents, who also use comcast, don't have an issue with using port 8080 and they have never called. I use that to remotely administrate their router. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

 | Port 8080 is grabbed by the SMC gateway.Tech support can turn that off so you can forward that port. |
