IP Address Changed - places me in another State

Tonight my connection went down. When I checked on the modem it appeared to be resetting. After it finished my connection still wasn't working so I unplugged it for 30 seconds and let it reset again. The modem appeared to be connected and ready but my connection still wasn't working. At that point I logged into my DD-WRT router and released/renewed my dhcp lease. I got a new IP address which is something that hasn't happened in years. The strange thing is that when I go to speedtest.net it shows me as being located in Georgia when I'm in Huntsville, AL. The change was from the subnet I've been on for a long time (24.96.133.*) to one I have never seen before (24.42.200.*). I have some domain names that revolve to my address so it is somewhat inconvenient when my IP address changes. Given the fact that the address doesn't seem to be an address normally assigned in Huntsville I don't want to change the dns settings for those names until I know what is going on. If anyone has any information on this I would appreciate it.

I'd say it's WOW doing network upgrades, seems Knology let things go way to long.

After conducting business with a fellow for 2 weeks via email, today secureserver.net service bounced my emails back saying they no longer accepted knology.net email "due to the sending MTA's poor reputation".

I've had to switch to gmail to finish the transaction.

I too had my IP change recently from a 24.96.192.x range to 24.214.107.x, although it still shows me in Panama City.

I also lost downstream bonding in the process.

Same problem here in Huntsville, AL. My IP changed from 24.* to 216.186.213.126 and the network is essentially unusable due to routing problems. Using my Verizon MiFi for now.

Well I don't seem to be having issues with performance. It seems largely unchanged. I went ahead and updated my domains but I hope this isn't something that is going to become common.

Just for fun, here's what Verizon sees trying to find me:

Sounds like they might be switching you guys to the Cisco BAC system. Pinellas went through it back in December and it was somewhat a nightmare for the first 2 weeks or so.. A lot of customers with routers were having problems.. They would loose connection every 30 seconds or so.. What seemed to resolve the issue was to leave the modem and router unplugged for a couple hours or even over night and plug it back in so it would get another new IP address and then it seemed to be fine... Another trick was to just bypass the router for the time being and plug your computer straight into the modem.. That would at least get you online for the time being..
But good luck with it. And everything should clear up in the next couple days. Its just a step in progress.. Like you guys mentioned its something knology probably should have done a while ago but they waited to long..

In case you wondering what the Cisco BAC is. Its has to do with how the modems are provisioned into the system. And its suppose to be more secure and quicker. Specially for the techs. They can pop a modem on the line and it comes online a lot faster then the older system.. That's about all I know about it.

This was caused by the system upgrades going on in many markets. The Huntsville area market just completed this upgrade. Releasing and renewing your IP address should resolve any IP related issues you might be having.

Thanks for the response. I cycled both the modem and the router (about 1 minute without power.) I allowed the modem to come fully online before plugging the router back in. I still pulled the same IP. I manually released and renewed but no change.

I was referring to the initial time you used the connection after the upgrades, I'm sorry for the vagueness. If you're still having an issue, feel free to send me a private message with your modem CMAC address and I can try and take a look at it. I have access to a lot of the Knology systems at this point, but not the billing system, so I can't look up account numbers, phone numbers or addresses.

Hey Dan. I was referring to steps I took after reading your post so it wasn't an issue of vagueness. I guess I was the one that was vague. I will send you a PM with my modem info.

Re: IP Address Changed - places me in another State

I tried fully cycling my modem again today. This time the modem started doing something when it came on. I thought it might be updating the configuration so I left it alone. It took a couple of minutes. When it was done and full synced I cycled it again. Then I plugged in my router. This time I got a new IP. This time it is a 24.42.212.* address. I went to speedtest.net and it places me in South Carolina which is even farther than Georgia. Even if this did not change my route at all the issue that I have with this is that a lot of services deliver content through location based sites. I'm also concerned that it just isn't right. Thanks for any assistance.
