Re: Verizon 4g LTE hitting 60mbps

said by Hall:

Verizon does NOT have data plans that are tied to speed specifications. Unlimited data is unlimited data - makes no difference what (smart)phone you have.

Meaning if you ever had unlimited data (before the got rid of it) you kept it regardless of how many times you have upgraded your device?

There's way too many confusion regarding unlimited data that's floating around. I guess I can give you personal experience and the truth?

I'm grandfathered into unlimited data and I used a 3g phone after the cut off date. I then later switched to a 4g phone and my unlimited data came along. 3g/4g doesn't matter as long as you are grandfathered into unlimited. Recently I have switched back to my 3g phone for troubleshooting and then back to my 4g phone and both cases I have kept unlimited data. Though going back to 4g required a call to CS.

Regarding upgrades and contract renewals, if you purchase a subsidized phone with a contract renewal, the unlimited data goes away. You can either switch to the Share Everything plan or go down to a limited data cap with your original plan.

You can keep unlimited data if you do NOT renew your contract and/or purchase a phone at full price from verizon, ebay, swappa, friends, families, dogs, cats, birds, the Jetsons...

Verizon won't take it away from people who have it. Now, they have tricked plenty of people who had it and as far as VZW is concerned, the customer gave it up. There are also reps who see the unlimited data plan as old or worse, "obsolete", and will try and talk you into "upgrading".

As of now though, unless it's changed again, we have to pay full price, i.e. no subsidized pricing, for new phones if we want to keep our unlimited data plan.

You are correct, but the confusion always comes from people who insist on including "3g" or "4g" or "LTE" in the discussion. If they'd leave that out, there'd be NO confusion at all.

You have to purchase your 4g phone outright to keep the unlimited data.

LOL Verizon can't throttle LTE on the 700mhz band until the FCC changes its mind and.

Ok they will add them to the lowest priority or what ever fancy term they will use to get away with it. Think I'm lying? Actually try the service sometime.

I'm sorry, I mean this is great that the service is capable of these speeds, but honestly.. With the price of it and caps and overages.. Its hard to get excited... whats the point in a super fast car if you can't drive it over one mile?

/shrug, they have killed my enthusiasm for their product..

When I was living in the Seattle area (eastside) I would consistently hit 40mbs /dl 15 mobs /ul. This was Sept of 2012. From Kirkland to Issaquah. Since moving back to the midwest (boo!) I rarely get 10mbs /dl.
