I'm confused. Under the affected versions portion it lists older versions and above as vulnerable. Does this mean if I install one of the older versions not listed that this newest nonsense going around will not affect me? Or, is version 7/15 fixing all of that? |

7u15 and 6u41 are the new security baselines. |

Java SE 7 Update 15
and
Java SE 6 Update 41 oracle had said that there would be no more updates for java 6.x, after java 6.39.. i guess this is an exception to the rule since it was, after all, scheduled to be released.. people were quiet about java 7.13.. i have wondered if java asked everyone to give them a break and that was why no one commented on java 7.13.. now that java 7.15 has been released, i hope we can get some feedback on it.. it is good that java supposedly now has 5 less vulnerabilities that can be exploited.. the question is, does it still have glaring security-holes that still haven't been patched.. |

The good and the bad: Good - they are fixing bugs on a regular basis. Bad - the base code is so poorly written that bugs pop up almost daily Bad - have to frequently keep updating the software on multiple machines Today was a BUSY DAY: Flash needed updating Firefox got an update Java needed updating iOS needed updating Lots of updates on multiple machines - glad I am retired and have time to do these and then check if systems remain unbroken. |

Yes I get that and I did install 7_15. I was just curious if the lower versions were indeed not affected by all of this recent mess. |

Thanks for the info StuartMW . I downloaded the update but I'm not installing it unless I absolutely have to. I just upgraded from Win XP to Win 7 a couple weeks ago and I'm keeping JAVA off of it as long as I can. |

No what that security bulletin says is it affects all versions prior to 7u15, and then it lists the last version before today's release. i.e. "JDK and JRE 7 Update 13 and earlier" There are massive holes/exploits in any previous version, that Oracle keeps patching. So no you wouldn't want an older version. |

Thanks. Sisyphus. I feel like @#$%&** Sisyphus. Java must have more holes than a collander. Hope the folks who anticipated whining are satisfied. |

More reason not to have Java installed... you don't need to patch it weekly!
Sadly, I need to have java installed to run my java applications. |

I'm not allowed to download it on Fx or Opera. I have met all requirements. I allowed cookies and javascript is on and bypassing Proxo makes no difference. The one at java.com wants to install Ask toolbar and I don't trust it to not do it even if I remove the checkmark. Plus, the one at java.com does NOT download the installer. It downloads something else and then you have to take FOREVER to download the installer and then it insults you with wanting to install Ask toolbar. So, I guess I can't update. |

The offline installer at » www.oracle.com/technetwo ··· dex.html does not include the optional toolbar. AFAIK the offline installer has never included the toolbar. |

So, I guess I can't update. Ran into the same thing, but you can get it from them here.I didn't wind up with a toolbar. It asked about installing some McAfee program during installation, but I unchecked it. |

I realize this doesn't quite meet the TOC for "whining". For the first time in years, I feel really good about Java with respect to all my systems. That's because it no longer exists on any of them. Adobe Reader has been entirely banished as well. Now if I could just convince two remaining users that there's really life after Flash, that would be completely gone as well... as things currently exist, it's gone from the rest of the systems though. Whether it's because of security-through-obscurity for all the remaining software or because their coding is more inherently secure, my updating life has definitely become much less complex. Ahhh... freedom! Breathe in the fresh air! |

Downloaded install files for Java 6 and 7, Windows, Windows x64, and Mac OS on FF 18.0.2 before I bothered to update to FF 19.0.
No problems here. Looks like it didn't recognize you accepting the license terms by clicking inside the little circle. Not sure why that would be. Somebody who actually codes pages might want to look at how the little circle works. Maybe once we know how it works, we can figure out what's going wrong with it. |
