28/1 Cable slow downloads behind router

My router has been giving me alot of trouble ever since switching to Cable 28, from Bell Fibe 15.

Download speeds sit around 300kb/s for one file, but when I try downloading several files, the cumulative speeds jump to over 1.5mb/s, and even that seems slow for Cable 28.

Is there any explanation for this? The speeds are like this no matter what time or day. I have an Asus n66u router if that helps.

My router (a D-link 825) has an autodetect for the port speed which switches from 10/100/1G, but wouldn't detect my cable modem's port speed properly. Manually setting it to 1G drastically increased my speeds. Maybe your router has something similar.

Have you tried connecting straight to the modem, bypassing the router? You should be able to get around 3MB/s speeds if the server can handle it (or try using speedtest.net).

It appears to have been the new firmware. I had to flash it back to the stock firmware, and its helped a lot.

Re: UBB?

Also make sure you're using Teksavvy DNS.. Not openDNS or some other.
