The above was at Speedtest.com, but if I ping a wiki page I get this:

64 bytes from 173.194.71.103: icmp_req=1 ttl=48 time=39.7 ms
64 bytes from 173.194.71.103: icmp_req=2 ttl=48 time=39.5 ms
64 bytes from 173.194.71.103: icmp_req=3 ttl=48 time=39.9 ms
64 bytes from 173.194.71.103: icmp_req=4 ttl=48 time=39.5 ms

Gotta wonder why these vast differences in ping time?

Three possible reasons off the top of my head;
1. Wiki server not equipped to cope with HughesNet compression algorithma
2. RTT reported was between them and the HughesNet gateway, rather than between them and you
3. Hughes is still messin' with the 9000 gateways

But it's not a universal thing, here's mine:
Ping statistics for 173.194.71.103:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 836ms, Maximum = 915ms, Average = 875ms

Given that I'm HN7000S, I'm inclined to look behind door number three

Update happened apparently, but nobody has seen any "improvements" as far as I can tell.

Looks the same here, but maybe the speed drop-offs have stopped. Not sure. Haven't been on long enough to really check it out, but so far it appears pretty steady.

Never mind. That was a lost hope

Yeah been pretty slow here as well (peak hours now I guess), maybe they were hoping for some placebo effect :P
