[HSI] Usage Monitoring?

I know that Charter has caps that they really don't enforce but I'm curious as to what I'm actually using. What is the best way to monitor my usage. My setup is as basic as I could get as it is temporary but I would like to see anyways.

Networx is another one.

and some routers track usage. I have a NETGEAR that tracks usage monthly.

Ok. I bought a $24 belkin from WalMart that doesn't track usage so I'm trying to come up with creative solutions to my curiosity.

The best way to monitor your total usage is from your router. If your router does not have this feature, you may need to flash it with DDWRT or Tomato.

You can check here to see if your router is compatible with DDWRT:

I agree, before I got a Netgear router to track everything in the house, I used the free Networx program to tell me the usage of the pc I use the most. Guess the OP could put it on every pc, if he has more than one.

On second thought... I don't think that would work.

Re: [HSI] Usage Monitoring?

I guess I'll have to get a better router if I want to play with this stuff lol. Thanks guys.

I spent the extra $ for a Netgear Router. I like you was just going to get the cheapest router because I thought a router was a router.

But it is worth the extra up charge to have a piece of mind at monitoring your usage and plus I have seen better coverage and speeds with my Netgear vs. Belkin.

I have a Linksys N750 @ home that I like alot, it works great as well but since I'm only gonna be up here in charter world for a little less than a year I didn't want to spend a lot on any of this stuff... But I didn't think about my nerd side wanting to play with everything As we all know, you can't really tinker with cheap stuff.

They're fairly cheap but harder to set up, I run a Mikrotik RB750GL and it gives you nice bandwidth graphs over time and can be setup to connect to an MRTG and monitor overall usage of the ports.

P.S. not everyone should just go flashing the firmware in their router (like tomato or DDWRT).....Good way to brick your router if you don't know what you're doing.
