While helpful this is by far not optimal, I have all of it blocked in the router and its still no where near acceptable but its at least usable. Its quite annoying and really makes me hope something comes along to rival youtube.

I'm on 150 Mbps and this really makes me angry. I've done the same ip range filtering and it doesn't really help.

Zores Im in Jersey like you and also have not seen any improvement blocking those 2 IP networks. Ive noticed other FIOS users from Jersey also have not seen any improvement. The folks seeing improvement must have IP's that google is source routing to the slow caching youtube servers thus they notice a speed increase when they block them. Hopefully none of this will be needed once Google improves their peering with Verizon.

It really is sad having such a fast connection and yet my video streaming experience is no better than it was 15 years ago.

But my internet connection is something along the lines of 100x faster.

I didn't apply any fixes, but the videos that were loading "ok" for me last night have turned into a crawl again.

Even a 480p video, couldn't watch it. Turned off WiFi on my phone and used AT&T 4G (non-LTE) and it loaded fine!

Come on Verizon/Google, fix this!!!!

What happen was a coincidence... It had nothing to do with your "fix", youtube was working good at the time you posted that (see my post below yours).

Add me to that group of "did the port range block" to my Actiontec and still slow You Tube. Starts off fine then 12-15sec into video...caching...loading....
Odd that it isn't as bad on my computer compared to my Xbox Live.

It is a shame that youtube works great while at work(including 1080p videos) and it is crappy at home on my fat FIOS pipe.

Ive seen improvement in Bayonne but it went from completely horrible to barely acceptable. Prior to blocking the IP ranges it was basically unusable, since its usable but just barely.

I'm in NJ and I have been experiencing the same thing for the past two weeks. It takes over two minutes to buffer a 30 second video at 240p. Blocking those IPs with the firewall didn't make any noticeable difference. This is unacceptable, and yet Verizon still has no comment?

I guess it's not surprising being that Verizon is still routing traffic from NJ which is destined for Comcast in NJ through Chicago and Canada, even after 8 months. (Traffic destined for Comcast in Philadelphia routes fine through NYC.) What incompetent buffoons.

After being horrible last night(Thursday), youtube videos played okay tonight.

I will continue to monitor the situation daily.

Huh?
DNS has nothing to do with "routing".
DNS resolves IP addresses with domain names. There is no need to use VZ DNS servers unless you want to allow Verizon to send you to whatever pages they want you to see.

Please switch to Comcast then!

Look at the post right above this one. The problem isn't FiOS, it's Google.

Re: Horrible youtube speeds

For what it's worth -
I tried the fixes on my Fios Actiontec router, and it seems to have greatly improved my Youtube streaming. Much faster now, pauses/lags at a very minimum so far...

Youtube streaming great today. In fact, it is the best I have seen it in a long time(maybe its the weekend and thus, less congestion). When I click on a clip, it downloads/buffers the entire clip within a few seconds and thus, I have no hiccups playing any clip.

I have a slight problem however ever since I updated the settings in my Actiontech Router based on the ip range in this thread. When I use the Actiontech Router's wireless signal with my laptop and roku box(connected wirelessly), everything plays okay. However, with my 50/25 FIOS connection, my speedtests on my laptop is cut in half I guess due to the Actiontech being wireless G.

Whenever I turned off the wireless setting in the Actiontech Router and use my Trendnet WAP(wireless N), I get full download speeds(50/25) on my laptop. However, my Roku box cannot connect anymore to my Trendnet's wireless signal even though it connects fine with my laptop.

My roku box worked fine before with my Trendnet WAP before I blocked the IP range within the Actiontech Router.

Any suggestions for a fix?
