I have played with controllers my entire life. They are second nature to me. That said, I can't play a FPS with them anymore. In Far Cry 3 I prefer the controller for driving, but can't hit shit with it when I need to shoot someone. If I'm on KB+M, I kill 20 people then hop into a car and run into the nearest tree.
