CA, USA kudos:8 | reply to onDvine After the surgeon and oncologist talk, the surgeon expects to do a mediastinoscopy: »www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency···3864.htm and take samples for biopsy. I should get a call Monday or Tuesday arranging for it to be done next week or, at latest, Monday/Tuesday of the following week.
IT'S AN OUTPATIENT PROCEDURE provided there are no complications. When they know biopsy results, a decision will be made about whether to treat with radiation or chemo.
If this surgeon had done the original surgery, he would've done the mediastinoscopy first and maybe this wouldn't have happened. The cancer cells escaped from the tumor in my lung before the lobe was removed. But that's irrelevant now.
I'm relieved not to be facing another major surgery and appreciate everyone's support greatly. |

| Didn't they check lymph nodes during your surgery? 7 were checked with mine which sounds similar to the mediastinoscopy and I have had two PET scans within the last 6 months all negative. It sounds like he is suspecting you had previous cancer even past the lobectomy at the time and should have received chemo/radiation post op? |

However, the oncologist stated at the time that he didn't believe post-op chemo or radiation would benefit me. Perhaps he figured EVERYONE checked lymph nodes during surgery? I don't know. Just have to deal with things as they are now. |

| reply to onDvine Hopefully, you're now on track with the medical team you need, that they are on top of this and will keep the "bad boys" away for you. It's amazing these days what they can do to keep so many cancers at bay.
Keep your chin up and stay on top of them. Glad you've made use of your time to research surgeons, hoping this keeps your health in better control.
Glad you're on top of this. I like that you are letting the whole team know so you can receive the most knowledgeable support available. It is also good to see the difference in your hope level this time. I'm on your "Beat It" team, as always. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| I'm glad it comes through for you. This really is a unique group of people, considering how different we all are in so many ways and yet we seem to come together in harmony when it comes to the important stuff, huh?
And you, my dear, are no exception. I think we were supposed to find each other so we can be there for one another.
You are so very welcome for the love. You have been there for all of us. We are happy to be here for you. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |
