Glad you've got the surgery out of the way, D.

Now, to get you healed up and get the rest of the treatment on track, so that you can get healed up once and for all! Hope you're feeling better; I know surgery can really punch you, having been there myself.

Rots and rots of healing light headed your way!!!

I am typing from a computer I thought was really lost to hope, and is working again, may you have the luck like this computer (The Beast). When I call my dearest tonight, I'll ask her to light a candle and have a vigil for you. Bless you!

Thank you.

Dr. L. feels we need to be as aggressive as possible. If it's determined that my liver can handle it, there will be a combination of radiation treatments and chemotherapy. I need a week or two to heal from last week's procedure before they can start radiation, plus they want to get a very detailed scan of my brain to make absolutely certain no cancer sneaked in there. If it did, it's a game changer. Am allergic to IV iodine dye so they need to use something else for contrast. Also, they need to decide if any specific chemo will be easier on my liver than others.

We had a scare with my brother admitted to the hospital today; they thought he might have contracted meningitis but have since ruled that out. What a relief! His kidney is still being rejected, but once they got him rehydrated he thought a turkey sandwich sounded good.

I'm going to lie down but hope to post more tomorrow. Am supposed to have a test to get a baseline of my current lung functioning because the radiation may zap some healthy lung tissue. I saw the radiation oncologist right after Dr. L. (my primary oncologist).

Any appointments I can arrange for tomorrow and/or Friday, I will. Then back to Dr. L. a week from today to see where we stand and start (to quote a dear friend) kicking cancer's ass.

Made a lot of progress:

Tomorrow morning will have a pulmonary function test to get a baseline measurement.

Tuesday afternoon (4/9) will have the brain MRI.

Wednesday will have a "radiation set up." They'll use a bean bag thingie to mold to my body and give me a couple (few?) tiny marker tattoos. Will be out of there in time to see the oncologist at 12:15. By then, he should know what can be done with chemo.

Radiation treatments may start as soon as Monday, April 15.

Please forgive if I've repeated anything?

That is great news!

It sounds like your Dr. is taking a good, aggressive approach to this.

Hang in there, you have gone through a lot already...there are better days ahead!

You guys are wonderful. I don't have words to express gratitude for your support.

The current plan is to start chemotherapy and radiation treatments next Wednesday, April 17. Chemo will be once a week and radiation 5 days/week. I have 3 tiny marker tattoos and am ready.

Still feel like am floating on clouds over the clear brain MRI.

Wonderful attitude. We'll maintain the Helix vigil, each of us in our own way.

I know this won't be fun, but it sounds like you and your medical team are in it to win it. We'll be right here cheering you on, even if you don't feel like hearing it sometimes.

Oh .... how many weeks do you think?

Some of the newer chemo treatment is better narrowed down and seems to have fewer side effects. I hope that is what you find.

Our friend Howard who has cancer in the lymph nodes said he never really felt nauseous or anything...actually put on a couple of pounds! He has been in remission for over 2 years now. They still have him take chemo in a pill form...the idea being to keep it from re-occurring.

Precisely what I have been hoping, Pete. My only experience with chemo was back in the early 90s when I cared for my mother who had ovarian cancer. I have since heard what you mentioned and I am so hoping for onDvine she gets the kinder medicine.

It sure would be nice. Last week the doctor was talking about using carboplatin and taxol. Reading about them has been ...interesting. But it sounds like there may be kinder versions now.

Our friend Howard who has cancer in the lymph nodes said he never really felt nauseous or anything ...

That's reassuring and I'm glad his experience wasn't awful.
