[Other] Where can I see rates for existing customers?

Can anyone explain why the only rates posted on the site are the ones for new customers? As an existing customer, I would like to see the rates for other packages, but the only option I have is to call.

I'd like to think that they will give me the "year 3" prices for the packages they are showing, but somehow I have a feeling this won't be the case.

you really cant see rates for existing customers. There are constantly new packages coming out. Many have complained (myself included) about rates for existing customers, best thing to do is call RCN and see what they can do. Its a mixed bag.

I can take a look at your account if you would like me to. You would need to send me the name on your account through private message and give me an idea of what you are interested in.

Thanks
Emilie

Thanks Emilie - I called on Saturday and got a good price for one of the new customer packages offered on the web site. I still would like to be able to review packages/prices/special offers for existing customers just like new customers can.

Rates

@neu.edu

I agree we need to see the rates for current customers. I can't even find a breakdown of how you came up with my rate.

You should have itemized costs in your bill I know I do in Chicago. I had called a while back to bump my network speed and they went over on the phone how much it would be and itemized each part.

The bad news is if you are on a bundle and want to change part of the bundle aka bandwidth they do everything one by one I have stars, tivo, tv, internet in my bundle and the tivo and stars were more or less added for free so a change from 25/2 to 50/6 would cost me $30 more per month. But if I cancel service and have someone else at my address sign up then I would spend $10 less then what I pay now with 50/6 and no stars.

Knowing the breakdown of your service does you very little. RCN provided me the following breakdown.

$45.88 25 Mbs internet
$11.29 limited basic TV
$28.93 signature TV
$28.94 phone
$4.95 TIVO Quad & TIVO Preview
$119.99

But I received free offers along the way: I have a TiVo Whole Home Bundle (WHB) with one preview box (& MoCa bridge). The web site says the cost of WHB is $29.99/mo plus Previews are $9.95/mo apiece. I also was given Showtime/TMC for free ($4.95/mo).

If I drop phone service in favor of cell phones and Skype or Vonage, they could easily say I've broken the package and charge me retail for my freebies resulting in little or no savings (or even a theoretically a loss).

I had the same result about asking to upgrade to 50 Mbs. It breaks the package and raises the overall rate by $30 more per month.

There is little or no advantage to knowing the breakdown, because it doesn't mean you can pick and choose.

I mean, RCN is just following industry standard practices. DirectTV is much worse, they have hidden charges all over the place. There is a laundry list of things that are being discounted for the first year only. The potential is for your bill to be huge once the introductory rates are through.
