I've been using DuckDuckGo on both PCs ever since Scroogle went dark. No issues AFAICT, and search results are quick and accurate. |

I just checked my Pale Moon search engine drop down menu out of curiosity (I have it set on Google) and Startpage and Duckduckgo are both available there as options - nice! |

StartPage is related to Ixquick but only StartPage supports SSL (HTTPS) search. » www.startpage.com/eng/ab ··· artpage/» www.ixquick.com/eng/abou ··· ixquick/ |

Ixquick does HTTPS, but provides results using multiple search engines. StartPage is a version of Ixquick that anonymously requests Google-only search results on your behalf. |

Started using it when its seriousness elevated with this blog post in 2011: » blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1884Not that Linux Mint carries a lot of weight with the general public. I had gotten really tired trying to figure out how to make Google stop guessing what you want and take search terms literally. |

I have tried DuckDuckGo on my smart phone. I'm used to Google results and DDG was often fairly different. And for me, that meant worse (less what I was looking for / less meaningful to me.) So I stayed with Startpage... |

What's the difference between Startpage SSL and Startpage HTTPS? |

If you are refering to the startpage.com website, AFAIK, no difference. HTTPS and SSL are the same. » startpage.com/eng/about- ··· ssl.htmlIf you are referring to the Firefox search engines, Startpage HTTPS is by ixquick, the owner of Startpage. Startpage SSL is by someone else. I believe that Startpage SSL search engine is the older Firefox search engine (not sure why ixquick wasn't first...) |

They should provide an option to switch between their guessing and taking exactly what I asked (without any substitutions or assumptions). |

I was indeed speaking of the Firefox search engines. Thank you for the clarification. |

One of the reasons (besides privacy concerns) why I use StartPage is - it allows customization in its URI request. For example, I need 100 results per page, exact phrase, no filtering, etc. Then I may create custom URI that could be used in different browsers. Here is configuration line that I use for setting it as default search engine in Iron: https://startpage.com/do/search?query=%22%s%22&prfh=lang_homepageEEEeng/advanced-search.htmlN1NsslEEE1N1Nfont_sizeEEEmediumN1Nrecent_results_filterEEE2N1Nlanguage_uiEEEenglishN1Ndisable_open_in_new_windowEEE1N1Ndisable_family_filterEEE1N1Nnum_of_resultsEEE100N1Ndisable_video_family_filterEEE1N1N
And here is what you'll get with this query: qwerty. |

First place I go setting up a new browser (after NoScript, RequestPolicy, and Web-of-Trust). Quick setup in Firefox: about:config / keyword.URL: https://startpage.com/do/search?language=english&cat=web&query= |
