| [AL] Why is it so freaking hard? I would really like to buy a triple play from Mediacom, but I am currently stuck with crappy AT&T dsl in a newer neighborhood of 50+ homes. I've been in contact with everyone at Mediacom including the local construction supervisor about getting cable in our subdivision. I continue to get the run around... Why is it so hard for communication companies to get anything done? Why doesn't Mediacom want our neighborhood? The only thing available is DSL and satellite. If Mediacom would wire our neighborhood they'd quickly gain most of AT&T's customers. COME ON MEDIACOM! |

| Poor ROI. Few homes (who already have 2 year contracts with satellite) so not a lot of potential customers. I was told unless the developer pays some money for the plan extension Mediacom will not even consider extending the plant for small neighborhoods.
Mediacom is not interested in being internet only provider so they have very little incentive to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars (in most cases) to get a small number of internet only customers. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

There would be no 2 year contracts as mediacom got in on day one. Mediacom dropped the ball.
AS FOR THE NOT WANTING TO BE AN INTERNET ONLY PROVIDER...
I'm sorry they better get used to it. No one wants mediacom's old out dated equipment. Plus the hd offerings are horrible. There giving phone away for 4.95 right now that should tell ya something about the condition of the company. Again my street only one house has mediacom cable TV services thats out of 25 houses. so really mediacom needs to embrace being a ISP only in some areas. |

There giving phone away for 4.95 right now that should tell ya something Right now I am a Directv customer. When I first got Mediacom Internet I checked out Mediacom's TV promo offerings. Directv beat them easily - cheaper and way better equiptment along with probably TWICE as many HD channels. In a word Mediacom TV promos SUCK big time. In order to compete in the TV arena Mediacom either needs to drastically lower TV prices or improve equipment and increase HD channels. At this moment in time Mediacom TV service is not competitive with Directv/Dishnetwork, not even close.
Mediacom Telephone service is a farce, no one that wants reliable Telephone service is going to consider Mediacom Telephone - at ANY price.
SO - as you say: They better get used to being an Internet only provider. |
|
 | There phone is not all that bad. Now would I pay full price for it hell no. Now you realize it says for entertainment use only in the TOS. Voip phone will never be reliable on any carrier. Its just not going to be because of how it works. |

Now you realize it says for entertainment use only in the TOS. A Telephone NEEDS to be reliable, otherwise it is worthless. VOIP is not an option for my household no matter who the carrier is. |

Well that sucks! No way it would cost hundreds of thousands though. It might not cost hundreds of thousands, but it will cost Mediacom a pretty Pennie. Just because you talked to the Construction Supervisor it's not his decision or money. I'm sure when your homes were built Mediacom was contacted and the decision was made not to spend the money there. So if you want Mediacom's attention, you have to form a group representing all or most of the Home Owners and then approach Mediacom with your proposal. |
|
 | what you need to do is review the franchise agreement and see if mediacom is required to build out that area. Mediacom is bound to provide service if the franchise agreement has stated service levels. |

I refuse to pay frontier the prices they want for there old copper lines... yep, it is in my mind. I demand phone service to be 99.9% reliable. I agree about Frontier which is why I use Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect. At $20 a month, free Long Distance, un-timed calling and all the bells -caller ID, Caller waiting, Call Forwarding etc etc.
I have had it for 2 years and it has been 100% reliable. Not even one outage. Not one. »www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/hpc.jsp
I have the Unlimited Single-Line In-Home Calling plan which is separate from the Cellphone service. In other words at $20 a month for Home Connect I do NOT share my cell minutes, however they do have a plan that does.
Before going on Home Connect I was paying Frontier about $40 a month for POTS with no extra bells or whistles and most important NO FREE LONG DISTANCE. L.D. cost me $$$$
I found it very interesting that Verizon came out with the Home Connect plan right after they sold their POTS business to Frontier... |

I had a home connect its good if your in a good signal area. They gave me a network extender to make mine work. The battery in it is good for 45 hours of standby and 3 hours of talk time. Really good service if verizon works in your area. Verizon ate my 2500 in etf's because they had no plans to update the towers here. so while your home connect experiance is good mine sucks...so everybodys mileage my vary. |

I have had Verizon Wireless cellphones for about 12 years and their coverage is great no matter where I have traveled. At my house the Home Connect gets full strength reception and I have never lost a connection in 2 years of using Home Connect.
Another big advantage of the VZ Home Connect is it will go where you go. I have a travel trailer and travel frequently in the warm months. The Home Connect goes with me since unlike my cellphone plan, the Home Connect has UNLIMITED anytime calling, long distance included..... |

 | vz is working on fixing that with GPS like is in the network extender. So people can't take it on the go. Can't say I agree with it but I can see there point. Its all about the money. As for the battery ya I know but I had mine on battery more than once. Till ameren repaired the feeder lines to the town.
I like verizon I signed 1 year with ATT and will go back once the tower issue is cleared. I hate dropping calls. I was at 21% dropped at one point. |

It appears GPS is built into the Home Connect. Even if it was not, VZ knows what cell tower you are using, so they would know your location pretty closely anyway. |
|
 | all I was saying is verizon will start locking people into using these in home only. |

 | reply to Gilitar mediacom's introductory rates are competitive. Their normal prices are way high but savvy types will switch around back and forth to get the promo rates to stick. I could probably sign back up and get the promo package and get the cable back now since I haven't had it since October. Just gotta get the right guy on the phone at mediacom.
My main beef with mediacom is they are taking awhile to phase out the analog channels and they look as horrible as I remember analog cable looking when I had it 15 years ago as a teen... but I hardly watch cable as it is. |
|
 | reply to Gilitar Well, it looks like I'm pressing the right buttons, because the local construction supervisor is supposed to be looking at what would be required to service our neighborhood. |
