You should be going for a quality of sound that is transparent to you (you can't hear artifacts in the encoding), not a specific bit count. |

However, some audio playback devices cannot deal with VBR MP3 files. For example the CD player in my Fusion while MP3 capable cannot handle VBR MP3's at all.
Nor can the audio broadcasting software I use SAM, feed it a VBR mp3 and it spits up like a baby with gas...
