| [FireFox] What 7 addons do you think are essential? Besides noscript, what addons for the current FF offering do you consider essential, I am trying to decide on them.
I have a brand new Windows 8 Laptop that I am still setting up, it will be used for college (hopefully). Any recommendations along those lines?
Study will be computer science.
I haven't installed many addons for a few years, so I don't know what is good and helpful these days... -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to signmeuptoo Saved Password Editor, DOM Inspector & Stylish (I customize a lot), and DownThemAll! (never download w/o it); another dozen or so are useful, but not "essential", for me.
You can spend days going through AMO and trying out bunches of add-ons--and you should. I'd also suggest getting familiar with PortableApps.com, esp. Firefox Portable; it's rather useful being able to run several different instances of Firefox at the same time. -- "Face piles of trials with smiles; it riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave." |

chrisretusnRetiredPremium join:2007-08-13 Philippines kudos:1 | reply to signmeuptoo What seven add-ons do I think are essential?
That is a tough one. I have 87 Extensions and 5 Plugins. For daily use my top seven would be:
- BBCodeXtra Adds BBCode/HTML/XHTML and custom tags commands to the context menu - CoLT Makes it easy to copy link text and locations. - KOLOBOK Smiles Be with KOLOBOK smiles in any forum and blog! - Lazarus: Form Recovery Recover lost forms with a single click - Print Edit Print preview with integrated edit capability. - Stay-Open Menu Facilitates opening multiple items from the Bookmarks Menu and various other bookmark/history related dropdown menus. - Tab Mix Plus Tab browsing with an added boost.
Of course I need all of my extensions. So I consider them all essential. -- Chris Living in Paradise!! |

nonymousPremium join:2003-09-08 Glendale, AZ | reply to signmeuptoo For the profile I use for classes the setup is almost stock everything. Now of course there are a ton of programs over the years for classes. Thing is putting on a bunch of addons to browsers or antiviruses for the computer or extra firewalls can turn icky. Lots of classes have VPN, ssh, etc. Some use browsers for many things. Adding a whole bunch of extras may break something a class requires you to do . Then figuring out which addon is responsible can be a headache. Why I run the university profile almost stock. |

 | reply to Mele20 Seems like Abine had abandoned GoogleSharing to strictly focus on DoNotTrackMe/DeleteMe/MaskMe. Would explain why it hasn't been updated in over a year and a half. |

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Yeah, I have wondered about that. I have tried DoNotTrackMe and I didn't like it. I far prefer Ghostery. But I LOVE GoogleSharing. I would pay for it and I would pay for Ghostery but not DoNotTrackMe. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Thomas Jefferson |

chrisretusnRetiredPremium join:2007-08-13 Philippines kudos:1 | I prefer Ghostery over DoNotTrackMe as well. That said I do not use either one now. I have never heard of GoogleSharing until this thread, but I personally do not trust Abine. They pimp DoNotTrackMe like a snake oil sales man. -- Chris Living in Paradise!! |
