Beta Testing with Thomson modem

Getting the 30/2 Package and was wondering if the Thomson modem can handle these speeds?

Which Thompson modem?

Thompson/RCA make a bunch.
The DCM425 is DOCSIS 2 and won't work with those speeds.
The DCM476 is DOCSIS 3 and will (and much higher speeds)

EDIT: Sorry copy/paste is a bad idea early in morning. Meant DCM425 is DOCSIS2, not DCM475

The DCM475 is actually DOCSIS 3.0 as well and does 8x4 channel bonding just like the DCM476.

@JakeG, the current DCM476 should have no issues attaining the speed of 30/2, you should be fine.

As others said, both of those modems (DCM475, DCM476) are full DOCSIS3 modems, with 8/4 channel bonding capability. I have one of each here with 45/4 service. They are pretty much equivalent to each other in capabilities and performance, with just a slight difference in the type of tuners each has, and the colour of the LEDs.

Either one can handle the highest speeds possible on Cable.

Sell it, and get a DOCSIS3 modem instead.

476 on paper is less capable than the 475? Can have 4 up channels but only from 2 of the range spectrums? While 475 can have 1 up channel, each up channel from a different range?

That's what i read but cant confirm

I got this from TSI a couple months back but as of this morning Im getting beta speeds for 30/2, would TSI take back this Thomson and give me a 475/476 and I just pay a little extra?

Ask them. They no longer provision new customers for the higher speeds unless they have DOCSIS3 modems.

Differently capable, not less capable. My recollection is that one of them has a single tuner that covers a broader frequency range, the other has a dual tuner, each half of which covers a narrower range.

Both give 8/4 bonding with Teksavvy/Start.ca here.

Edit: here's the original discussion of those modems:
»[Cable] Technicolor replaces DCM475 with DCM476 in lineup

said by decx :
The only thing I found was that DCM475's receive function has two separate 32MHz capture windows (according to Technicolor dual tuners) while the DCM476 has a single 96MHz capture window.
Plus *BLUE* LEDs on the DCM476!

I find the blue LED's on the 476 to be very annoying. I have my modem in my bedroom, and I have to cover them up at night they're so bright.

Me too. So my DCM-476 now sits in its box as a spare, and the DCM-475 runs our live connection.
