Re: [CATV] Charter's HD looks like trash

Obviously it does vary by area. I told my sister in law she was crazy for paying $60 for that crappy resolution. she'd paying $34.99 for "REAL HD"! LOL

its amazing that Charter has such AWESOME internet, yet such crappy TV.

Compuguybna, you are correct. The HD picture is horrible in TN. I received a letter from Charter stating that this is the best they can do and not to call them about the picture quality anymore. They overload the QAMs causing the fuzzy, blocky picture; especially when action happens when the screen can actually freeze. Watch the beginning of the Big Bang Theory on TBS and see the opening credits freeze before they end.

Directv's GENIE was shoved out to he masses with a huge amount of issues. New customers were basically "beta testers". How many firmware downloads has this device got. We had it for 2 months, and went back to DISH. Laggy Laggy Laggy, lockups, gray screens on clients, reboot reboot, freezes during playback, and the dreaded "red button" reset/
They tried to pop us with an EFT. We just laughed, and said "good luck". Don't put out crap before its fully tested.

I've had Charter for years, and just recently switched to DirecTV (had to due to relocation). I would agree that DirecTV seems to have a slight edge on picture quality, but I absolutely hate my DirecTV. It takes FOREVER to navigate the program guide, recorded shows, etc, in comparison to Charter. In addition, my 'Genie' system has to be reset at least every other week (my receivers in the other rooms will just grey screen and not load anything, requiring me to do the red button on the DVR). These are problems I never had with Charter.

So...picture quality slightly better on Direct, but I wouldn't say Charter's is 'garbage' either. The difference is minimal, and the tradeoff is worth it IMO.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it AWESOME internet, but it is very dependable here.

As far as tv, I don't even own a HD tv and only have expanded basic, but yet, I still get the picture freezing and lagging crap!!

"AWESOME" internet only after a couple of fixes, including a completely new coax run from the pole, and them lowering the feed on the pole 10 inches because the feed was right underneath a power transformer......

that took so long because AT&T had rights to that pole, so the engineer told me. The cable was run under the ground, then up the pole, then down the street.

If you have freezing and lagging that is at the headend where they are getting the signal....I wouldn't be surprised if they are using a crappy consumer DTA STB to get digital OTA signals and pipping them to the line and analog feed you get. Those issues you have remind me of the issues I sometimes get with my own Zenith DTA STB lots of picture freezing and problems with audio syncing.

Yes,
Audio syncing is another thing I see. Makes it look like like I'm watching some cheap foreign film!!

@compuguybna
OK, I'll go so far as to call Charters internet AWESOME here also then. I have only ever had to call Charter for an issue 1 time that wasn't either weather related or some scheduled maintenance, in 15-16 years. Have called Charter 3 times total for anything OTHER THAN a modem swap.
