I've stated the reasons above for why and how to remedy it. Most people prefer to get their media through legal means if it's cost effective and gives them a way to watch it on whatever device they want. When content providers tighten their iron grip and remove options, people will end up resorting to piracy vs going without.

I'm not trying to fix a problem with copyright law, but stating that using a VPN is not the only way to get by on 6 strixes. Also, it's legal to DL copyright music in Canada, not the US. It is harder to catch the DL which is why they go after the uploaders.

edit: This obviously ignores fair-use cases.

What about the use of usenet servers (newsgroups) and a SSL connection(s) with those servers? Is that "safe" from being detected?
I know a few people who use this type of configuration and often wondered this!

that doesn't mean they are not taking other measures.
