 | Will HughesNet Replace my 3g Verizon VZ Access? I have a very slow 3g Verizon VZ Access: constant buffering, slow downloads, impossible to watch YouTube without many delays, Netflix or Amazon not worth the effort. We would like to do all of the above plus normal surfing, emails, and reading of long essays (newspapers) etc. We use about 6-8 GB/month now, but have no problems using and paying for more. Will the Gen4 Power Max package 15/2 with 20GB do it for us? Are there any real problems with HighesNet that we should be aware of? Thank you!! |

| Depending on how much you download (and if you can stay up late at night) you may wish to go with Exede.
Lots of Gen 4 people have complained about slowness and it hasn't been out quite as long as Exede, of course grass is always greener on the other side as they say.
Exede has from Midnight-5AM unlimited which is really great for updates, downloads, watching videos, etc; this can make a huge difference.
I've used Exede and I'd say for web browsing it's better than slow 3G, however if you do anything that needs lower latency (Mostly games / VOIP will suffer) it wont work well. You can still notice the delay a bit but most everything comes up reasonably quick.
As a side note Exede 12 (which if you're in an Area that can get it, which is probably the same as Gen4) goes roughly 16mbps in practice, although as always your millage may very and peak hours might be slower than that. |

 | reply to SandyH Why don't you try erizon fusion broadband. If you can get a 4g signal in your area you will be very happy with the change. I had directway and hughes for 11 years. I cancelled them and now have horizon fusion broadband. You can only get it if you can receive a 4g signal. go to their web sight and see if you get it in your area. It is extremely fast and cost similar to hughes. you can get 10-20-or30 gigabytes a month. I live out in the sticks but since a tower went up about 2 miles from me I get a 4band signal..average down 27to40Mbps depending on time of day |

 | reply to SandyH As a long-time HughesNet customer (o/10 years) who recently pulled the plug on Hughes and went to Verizon, I can tell you Verizon stands head and shoulders above HughesNet. HughesNet is imploding in terms of service, both access and customer service-wise. Our Verizon service has been flawless compared to what you will experience trying to keep internet service going with Hughes. It has been nothing but a burden lifted since losing HughesNet.
I implore you to stay away from HughesNet. |

I implore you to stay away from HughesNet. Been with them for 11 years and looking for a way out. Was seeing lots of things about the daily cut-outs on HF and it seems that it took for ever to get a fix, just wanted to know if it worked. Thanks. |

 | reply to SandyH Well, I was sorry to read all the negative comments about HN, especially as I had already switched from Verizon. However, at the end of my 2nd week with HN I am thrilled! The speed is as promised - I got the premium package- and customer service has been just fine. I haven't needed much as all has gone so well. Finally, after 4+ years of struggle with a local provider, then Sprint and then Verizon, I finally have the speed that I need and, so far, flawless service. |

Good Luck |
