Re: 11-year surgery wait has N.S. woman speaking out

Because I know people in health care I was able to see a specialist in three weeks instead of waiting three years. If you know people, you can cut lines, yes.

It's always been this way.

That doesn't make it right.

Then pour more money into health
care , which means raising taxes. I keep arguing that you can't keep cutting taxes and expect the status quo, something has to give, Health Care is a good example .

It's obvious it's becoming very strained, with some provinces not having the resources to take care of thier populace.

FWIW, I recently required surgery on my left hand for locking trigger finger. Took 2 months just to get past my family doctor.

Finally the family doctor calls and says they have an appointment for a plastic surgeon for me, 15 months down the road.

So I called the plastic surgeon up to see what the wait was so long. It was because I was in the OHIP queue. The other was the private queue - breast augmentation, liposuction, other cosmetic procedures. And they asked me point blank if I would like to join that private queue. All it required was a $100 consultation fee. I paid it, and jumped the OHIP queue - had the surgery done in under 4 weeks.

I later discussed the whole thing with an official at OHIP. They were shocked. What occurred was unlawful, according to them. They asked for my name and the name of the surgeon so they could "look into it". Yeah, thanks anyway. Click.

We have a multi-tiered health care system in Canada, the result of greed and corruption. Believe it.

It is indeed illegal. And you can be sure that OHIP will be doing some strategic audits.
