New version of avast! released

At this exact moment in time (Wed afternoon 27 Feb), they are NOT pushing it out as an auto update (and I am glad!) IMO, let it settle for a few days before the grand push!

Had a problem here - not with avast!

I have it on two XP machines and it seems great. Program is avast! Internet Security..

Windows 7 is next but I am very busy right now.

Well I gave it a try...

1st - It would not install via the internal updater. Got past the reboot and there was no Avast to be found. Rebooted again and still nothing, it never completed the install.

2nd - Imaged my drive back and uninstalled Avast 7 via remove programs.

3rd - Installed Avast 8 from a download. It installed OK and seemed to be running all right (at first). My system slowed way down. Some programs were taking 10X the time to load, some would not even load. Internet was affected also, slow at times, then ok, then slow, then ok, etc.

4th - Imaged my drive back again to Avast 7 and everything is working fine now. I believe this program needs some serious tweaking before I'll try it again.

BTW, these were the Pro versions.

Got it via internal update and runs fine on my Win 7 Pro (avast pro) and Ultimate (avast free).

Running the free version with no problems,on my W2K,WXP and W7 drives.

Disabled the Cloud service just to see if there was any difference.......doesn't seem to be.

My only gripe is that I'm curious to know why an AVP has to have an option to be a software updater?

Why get so bloated with extra crap.................just keep it as it is.

Been running it now for a few days with no issues what so ever on Win 7 Pro 64 bit
Amazing really
As it was an upgrade over existing
Don't know why the extra stuff was needed like software updater, firewall(didn't click on that probably a pay for model)
All in all I am satisfied user

Yes got the new program version here as well
installed rebooted and all is well so far.

So is the firewall included in this free version of Avast free or pay for when you click on it

Yes firewall is pay for.

AV working very well so far, haven't noticed any real issues other than slightly different interface.
