If so many people are having issues in Iowa (cedar rapids here) is it Mediacom issue? Or do I have to set my router to different nber?

Yes it's an MC issue with their DNS. So just change it to another DNS server and the issue is fixed.

I have to admit, I didn't know it was even possible to steer around dns issues.

I have used 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (Opendns) for years. I have also used Mediacom DNS. I have seen little to any difference.

Since it is very easy to switch between different DNS's in the router, if I am having any kind of trouble getting to a website I merely switch the DNS. I am using Opendns right now.

We are getting reports that services are starting to come back up now. Let me know if you have any other HSD issues.

Glad I checked in here, as I wouldn't have been brave enough to try changing my DNS numbers otherwise. I've done it now, though (only on my MacBookPro, not the router - I hate messing with that thing) and it worked a treat. I used the Level 3 numbers that I found on this really handy list:

If one of you guys happens to be the "Maxwell" who wrote this, THANKS!

Everything should be resolved now. Please feel free to private message me if you are still having issues.

When I couldn't get on the net and windows said the DNS server wasn't responding I went into the network settings and put in google's DNS of 8.8.8.8 and everything started working again. I felt so smart.

If you wanta feel really smart, you will not re-enable Mediacom DNS.

It is always handy to have backup DNS just in case.
