Will my router automatically jump up?

Once my area gets higher speeds, will my router automatically jump up to 6mbps?

It may or may not. Likely you will need to ask Frontier to turn it up. Just be aware of the billing surprises that tend to come out of asking for an upgrade within your current package, though.

Our current plan goes from 1mbps to 6mbps, though.

Your modem should adjust to the new speeds. Once your area is turned up you will want to power cycle your modem which will allow it to resync with the new speeds. If you have an older modem such as the SE567 or the 6520 you may want to upgrade it to the 7550 to handle the speeds but other than than it should be automatic.

If you have any questions feel free to give us a call.

I run an SE567 and get about 3Mb/s. What does the 7550 have the SE567 doesn't that allows it to handle the increased speeds? Are you suggesting that the SE567 would indeed sync at any future speed increases just that the 7550 can better handle the connection due to better processor etc.?

Thanks!

But, when we upgraded from 1.5 to 3, a tech had to go to a local neighborhood box and enable it.

Nothing special, maybe a faster CPU, more RAM and for certain a newer Wireless chipset. Any DSL modem made from the early 2000s should handle 6Mbps. Mid 2000s modems are typically ADSL2+ which can do up to about 24Mbps in theory if the line will sync that high.

The SE567 will do 6Mbps just fine. It's on Frontier's end where it needs to be turned up.
