IGMP used as keep alive check?

Just curious to know if Cox uses IGMP as a keep alive check. I'm asking because I'd like to enable IGMP proxying in my router but, I heard that's not a good idea if your ISP uses it as a keep alive check.

Keep what alive? Cox wouldn't be using it for customer side checks of data connections.

why would Cox need a keep alive check? HSI is always on it's not like the TV's SDV.

Docis does use polling every 15 to 20 seconds and is considered a hit or a miss, it is part of the T3 timeouts you may see, that's why modem's reset and go offline due to noise issues, guess you could call it keepalives.

Not related to polling, IGMP membership reports are multicast upstream, it would be better not to send the requests but I would imagine they would be blocked by an access list.
