[Need Info] Phillies BaseballWhy are Phillies spring training games blacked out on MLB network if RCN doesn't provide The Comcast Network in it's lineup. I can understand it when Comcast Sportsnet carries the game simultaneously since RCN carries it, but since we have no other access to the game on TCN, I would think we should be able to see the game on MLB network. Damn it's only spring training games. |

Re: Phillies BaseballI learned in previous years that since RCN does not currently carry The Comcast Network (TCN), it is not allowed to show the Phillies game even if it simulcast on another network. I know that we have the new channel thread here on this forum, but I ask our wonderful moderator to please allow us to have this thread for Phillies baseball. This is our only chance each year to really petition RCN hard to add this channel in time for the upcoming baseball season. Thanks! Looking at the schedule, there are nearly 20 Phillies games that RCN customers will not be able to watch on TV: » philadelphia.phillies.ml ··· c_id=phiThis number could increase if the Flyers and/or Sixers make the playoffs. As I have said before, it is very difficult and embarrassing to explain to people that we live in the Philadelphia market and can't watch every Phillies game that my neighbors who have Comcast or Verizon can watch in their houses. Please also tweet your requests to @RCNConnects. Thanks! |

I have been an advocate for this channel for at least 5 years. It has mainly falling on deaf ears in the past. Every spring I push for this channel to be added to RCN's lineup. Last week I emailed RCN and asked for this channel to be added (again) and I did get a reply stating that my request will be added to the other people that want this channel also. So I would highly recommend anyone wanting this channel to please email RCN and request it. Not the wish list thread but to RCN directly and remember that miracles never cease. |

I'm no sports fan but even if I was it's hard to justify all customers pay for TCN year round for 20 games. Just look at the complaints on here fornrates going up. Carrying TCN doesnt help that cause. |

Re: [Need Info] Phillies BaseballI would also like to see this channel. I remember last year that here in the lehigh valley we had the SD version some NY channel for yankees and mets baseball. We're close to philly then NY and we don't have this channel? I'd rather drop the Yankees channel and get this one. |

Every year I am faced with the decision to leave RCN because of this issue. I like RCN 's service but I enjoy watching the Phillies games more. PLEASE RCN add the TCN channel so I don't have to go back to evil giant Comcast. I will be sending the e-mail as I do every year. |

Just look at the complaints on here fornrates going up. Carrying TCN doesnt help that cause. With the rates going up, there is even more reason now more than ever for RCN to keep its customers happy or they will leave. I've said it before that I know that adding TCN may not pay on paper, but it is inevitable that RCN must eventually acquiesce and add this channel or they will gradually lose too many customers in the PA markets to Comcast or Verizon. For the record TCN also airs several Flyers games. I've also mentioned before how embarrassing it is when you have company over expecting to watch the game and you realize too late that it's on TCN! You can't even explain that RCN provides a great service at a great value when they can just get up and watch the game at my next door neighbor's. The only reason that I'm still here is that they offered me a long term deal that is too good to pass up for now. I am frustrated because I want to see RCN succeed. I've been a big RCN fan since they knocked on my door and asked me to become a customer. I've gotten to know several of their employees. However, I know that they cannot succeed in this market long term without this channel. |

Carrying TCN doesnt help that cause. I hate when people say these things. We who watch sports can fire back and say we don't watch the channels they watch as well. It's just a vicious cycle and neither of us are right in claiming such things. But here in the lehigh valley we have the SD new york yankees/mets channel called SNY. Makes no sense to me. We're about an hour outside of philly, two hours outside of new york. If we can pony up the money for SNY, lets get TSN too! |

You speak a pretty broad statement there don't you think? According to you, then why add OWN (Oprah's channel) and the 50 reality TV show (sitcom) channels some people on RCN don't need that make the rates go up? You see my problem with your statement I hope? |

Re: [Need Info] Phillies BaseballHas anyone received a response from RCN this Spring to this thread, their emails, or tweets?
The Phillies are on TCN tonight. I was really hoping that we would have this channel for this season. |

@heggs, oprah's channel is a borefest but it is owned by discovery networks that sells channels in a bundle to operators such as rcn. OWN costs a few cents per month versus a couple of dollars per month for any channel that has live sports. ESPN alone costs around $6 a month.
yes this sucks for phillies fans but whatever RCN decides its a business decision and its your decision whether to stay as a customer or go to the competition. |

So your saying its a cost issue? A small market local cable company in the valley here (I won't mention any names) has had the channel for a few years now so price to add it is a poor excuse for such a huge market that RCN has. Also TCN is a secondary channel of the Comcast Sports Network not an ESPN so it would be, as per your reply,a BUNDLE at a very minimal price to add cause RCN already carries CSN. |

Maybe our spokesperson for the RCN forum (Emily) can help us out on this matter and get a reply from corporate to us. I know she has been very helpful on other issues on this forum. |

I sent an email to the VP / GM of the PA market today. We need to get this channel added this season. It's in RCN's best interest to grow their business in PA. |

Looks like tonight's game isn't aired already? That took a whole three games before they put it on stupid TCN. |

Get used to it. About 3 weeks of missing quite a few Phillies games and maybe longer if the Flyers or Sixers make the playoffs. Thanks for nothing RCN for listening to your customer base in the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley market and adding this channel. Not! |

We have the MLB Extra Innings Free Preview through 4/7, but I assume that the channel with the Phillies - Braves game will be blacked out tonight for RCN customers.
Does anyone have any experience with MLB.TV or At Bat subscriptions to know if the game is also blacked out on there if watching from an RCN internet connection? I'm asking because I was able to watch the Phillies - Blue Jays exhibition game last weekend on MLB.TV on my computer even though the game was on TCN. |

It didn't work locally here in Allentown, but I was able to setup a proxy server from one of our server in our data center in Colorado so when he streamed they thought he was in Colorado and it worked. So, unless you have a data center you can put a proxy server on, it won't work. Although godaddy and such has virtual server you can buy pretty cheap, but I think the bandwidth for the games would kill you financially. |

MLB TV through the computer would block out all the Phillies games also. I checked and they use your IP address and zip code to check and it said team(s) blocked : Philadelphia Phillies so forget that. I also like when you go to the free MLB preview this week and go to the channel where the Phillies are on and it comes up Sorry but this game is blacked out due to local restrictions. Check your local cable networks or something like that. I yell its not available on our cable network they don't give us the channel! Its a lose/ lose situation for the RCN customers in the Lehigh Valley and Philly market. Only RCN holds the cards to take care of this. I wonder if there reading, listening and taking this seriously at all the demand for this channel and do they really care? |

Yes that was awesome, wish I could have seen it, along with many other angry RCN fans, but until they give us TCN in the Philly/Lehigh Valley market we will always miss a chance to see a really really good game unfortunately. |

I would like to give RCN the benefit of the doubt that they are trying to satisfy all sports markets. In fact, are any of the other RCN markets missing any MLB games: Bosox, Yanks, Mets, O's, Nats, Cubs, Chisox? Let us know because I thought that PA was the only one still missing a channel for MLB. |

Good question st89jebn, so I decided to do the research in the other RCN markets to see if they are missing games of there favorite team in there city. After all, if you notice nobody is complaining on the forum about missing a Yankees,Mets,Cubs,White Sox.Nationals,Orioles or Red Sox game. Lets take a look and see why?
RCN New York Market: YES Network MSG Overflow Network MSG Overflow Network Plus SportsNet NY RCN D.C Market : Comcast Sports Net Comcast Sports Net Plus MASN (Mid Atlantic Sports Net) MASN 2 RCN Boston Market: New England Sports Net Comcast Sports Net RCN Chicago Market: Comcast Sports Net Comcast Sports Net Plus RCN Philly/Lehigh Market: Comcast Sports Net
I think this explains it pretty clear why we need and should have The Comcast Network added in the Philly/Lehigh Market. RCN its a no brainer. Case Closed!

Markets outside of LHV are more competitive therefore all sports are carried. Comcast and Time Warner are bigger threats than SECV. |

My last post apparently went over your head cause you did not see what I was exposing. First off, I don't care about Comcast or Time Warner, there not available in the LVH, I am referring to RCN and RCN only on this matter and how there other markets they serve carry all the Extra and Plus sports channels so they never miss there baseball games even if the Knicks,Islanders,Capitals,Bulls,Black Hawks,Celtics,Bruins are playing cause RCN gives them all there sport overflow channels even when 2 (and 3) sport teams are playing at the same time in a particular city. RCN refuses to add The Comcast Network to there Philly/ LVH customer base and that is what we are fighting for and asking RCN to add. RCN only gives us ONE local sports channel the Comcast Sports Net, they will not give us the overflow sister channel TCN (The Comcast Network) so when the Sixers or Flyers are playing the night the Phillies are on at the same time the Phillies are pushed to TCN and by doing this we miss around 10 regular games plus around 20 spring training games which are also on TCN. And if the Flyers or Sixers make the playoffs,we continue to miss more games.Take tonights game for instance, Phillies come from behind in the ninth to win with a walk off double. Did RCN's customer base in the Philly/LVH see it? Nope we don't get that channel but we were able to see the Sixers get blown out by the Heat on our only ONE local sports channel. It would have been nice to have a choice like the other RCN markets don't you think? What if a Yankee,Red Sox,Nationals fan could not see there team play? I think I made myself clear, and if RCN continues to ignore it, all the power to them. |
