[AB] Shawbiz webmail Security certificate error

Hello,

I am having a problem logging into Shaw's business webmail (webmail.shawbiz.ca) or (webmail.shawcable.com). I am getting an invalid security certificate from the sites. I can only access the business webmail from these sites, Shaw.ca's webmail seem to only be for residential customers. This happened last year around the same time and I had to make an exception for the site. I can still access my email through outlook.

I need to know if this is happening to other people, or if my computers (it is happening on multiple computers, on different ISP's) have been compromised, or if shaw's connection has been. Or if this is even a legit site, I was told by shaw to use these sites in the past to access my account information and webmail.

Without the https I get a 403 forbidden error, and with I get an invalid certificate. The https is added automatically when webmail.shawbiz.ca is typed into the URL bar.

I have deleted the old certificate, cleared my cache and site preferences to no avail.

Thank you

Just an update with this issue.

I can access the webmail without https on webmail.shawcable.com (haven't put in my credentials yet) without a certificate error.

I talked to a tier 1(?) tech on shaws phone system and he said that its fine and to allow the certificate. He then gave me an explanation about virus software being too "paranoid" and throwing the certificate error up. AFAIK, virus software doesn't have anything to do with the browser certificate management. I mentioned this to him and pressed the issue a bit further and he said that they are having problems with their certificates.

As I said before this happened last year and I put in my credentials, and now I am wonder if this was a good idea. Nothing bad has happened from it AFAIK.

I really don't understand how browser certificates work, could someone please give me an explanation?

I forgot to mention in my original post that I also cleared the cookies, and have them to be cleared upon closing the browser.

This is still a problem for me and I am in need of an explanation as to why this has occurred and a way to fix it, if possible.

Thank you all

It is ok, that is the correct server,

They are still using an expired certificate though, and it should be fixed by them, nothing (as far as I can tell) to do with an anti-virus program.

My answer from shaw about this problem was. I got the check the date on your computer as the answer. but it wasn't the problem. You should post a screen shot if it comes up again. btw I don't care who tells you what. never except a expired certificate. just refresh the browser window and get a new certificate.

lol, yes jerrycananda, that was something I read on the net (I think it came from shaw, but not sure) as a fix for the problem. It seems to be pretty hard these days with new OS's to have a wrong date. I agree with "I don't care who tells you what. never except a expired certificate". But had to at the time due to work necessity.

Refreshing the browser doesn't seem to issue me a new certificate.

Here are the certificates that Firefox has on this computer, left is server, right is authority. The server certificate expires on 3/26/2012??!! I deleted this certificate on another computer manually (I failed to check the date at the time), but still got the certificate expired warning when going to the site again, I am baffled.

Thanks again

Why do people reply on the ISP for e-mail?

It's like replying on Power Companies to change lightbulbs - it's sort of up their valley, but much better managed by the end-user.

Get off ISP e-mail, get gmail, eat cake

webmail.shawcable.com is that a real shaw domain? I've never seen that one before.

why don't you use

»webmail.shaw.ca/

Anyone from Shaw reading this, care to comment

Its the Business email domains

shawcable.com
shawbiz.ca

There is another free one, that has slipped my mind, but it is the business domains, and supports IMAP...

Also for business customers with their own domain hosted by Shaw, webspace and emails...
