 | [Installer] People are wallowing in their own stupidity again... First, let me say I am a technician. I installed Starband, and Dway back in the days of the 4000/4020. Then I went off to do other things. (Dish/DTV) I came back to Hughes just as the 9k was released.
Second, let me agree off the bat that there are unscrupulous sales people out there that will lie to customers to make the sale. Duh. They are in every walk of life... Hughes is no different.
However, all that aside, I routinely deal with people who are just plain stupid. All complaints about speed and FAP vs price are INVALID COMPLAINTS!! Yes, I said it. INVALID. You are the idiot that moved out into the middle of nowhere. You are probably the same idiot that has no numbers on your mailbox to make it easier to find you, and then complains to UPS when they dont bring your package the first day. Nobody twisted your arm to leave the city. For you to cry and complain about the service vs the price is ridiculous. Dominoes doesn't deliver to your house, but I don't see you on their website talking trash about pizza?? Of course not. Because you realize they can't bring you a rural product you could afford. Hughes manages to bring service, but it's not going to be as good as in the cities, and it's going to cost you. Dont like it?? Move.
Also, please realize that as installers, we are not allowed to un-sell your service. Sometimes, if it's blatantly obvious to me that hooking you up would be a disservice to you, I'll try to lead you to asking me the right questions, but I cannot simply walk in and try to start telling you everything the system WONT do, and talk you out of getting it. If I walk in, and you hand me a Vonage box and point to your XBOX for installation location, I can try to help you understand it wont work that great with those services. But some of the responsibility is on YOU, the customer. I installed a kid (20 or so) who was having me hook up his PS3. He mentioned that this was his 3rd try at a service to game on. (vz and 4g and such) I asked him what the salesman said his latency or ping time would be. He said "what's that?" I said "nevermind", and installed it without saying another word about it. I figure if he was so stupid for this to be the 3rd attempt, and he STILL hasn't so much as googled it, then it's not my job to school him. Another couple got the new GEN4. It really is an awesome system. I was out to do a de-install. I swear to god, the lady told me, "They told us we could watch netflix a couple movies a week, no problem, and that if we went over, it'd just slow down. We had only streamed 15 or so hours of HD in two days, and they cut us off...Well they slowed us down so much it wouldn't play movies.." My question was, "Well, mam, what did you think slow down meant??" And her jerkoff husband kept calling, and eventually stormed our office demanding his money back, cuz we just could not get it thru his thick head that we didn't sell it to him, we are JUST a installation company. After almost 5 years, I could just keep going and going. If you ask the right questions, and are lied to, I'm sorry. If you don't ask, then I'm sorry that you're stupid.
As a side note, I'll end with this... The BBB. ROFLMAO!!! The BBB is the biggest SCAM you've EVER wasted your time on! How many people out there realize that you CANNOT GET A A+ rating with the BBB unless you pay them? And, what's more, it's not hard to keep your rating up as long as you continue to pay! My company just tells them to screw off every time we get a letter. Don't believe me?? Next time you see an Angie's list commercial, pay attention... They specifically say "If your not a customer, you can't get on here." Or something to that effect. It's a direct stab at the 'buy your rating' policies at the BBB. Someone should report the BBB to the BBB... LMAO. | | | Re: [Installer] People are wallowing in their own stupidity agai LOL

Re: [Installer] People are wallowing in their own stupidity agai I always find it funny when people talk about HughesNet. I do support for a large video game company that allows netflix to stream on our consoles. about 1/2 the calls I get in a day are in regards to this. I had someone call in with timeout errors and they were on HughesNet. We got them going again and I asked how many movies they stream a day. She responded with "Oh it runs all day". My response was "Well you might want to watch that, HughesNet is capped." She responded with "Oh we have UNLIMITED." ...Well alright Ma'am. thanks for calling. | | | reply to SatelliteGuy ITT: Ignorant people are ignorant hurr durr.

Need some help with your facts?
GENERAL FACTS ABOUT AGRICULTURE
Twenty two million American workers produce, process, sell and trade the nation's food and fiber. But only 4.6 million of those people live on the farms-- slightly less than 2 percent of the total U.S. Population.
»www.cals.ncsu.edu/CollegeRelatio···RICU.htm | | BFE @direcway.com | reply to SatelliteGuy Hi, I am one of those "dumb" people that live in BFE....roughly, I live four miles from a town to the South of us, and ten miles from a town North of us, in a densely populated neighborhood that also includes farmland. DSL through Charter is offered 1/2 mile to the South of us and 1/4 mile to the North of us, 1 mile, respectively, to the East and West of our location. HughesNet, WildBlue and other Sat. Providers are the only game in town....er....in this black hole of a neighborhood. Ever see Brigadoon? I do believe that DSL providers think we are invisible, or just not here. Will they ever close the gap and reach us? Who knows. In the meantime, I get to deal with FAP while friends (and neighbors just down the road, for crying out loud!) don't even know what bandwidth is, because they don't have to deal with such things on a daily basis. They stream netflix during prime time hours without so much as a buffer bump.
Just so you know, not all of us "rural" types are hay eating dimwits. We pay through the nose for our piece of the high speed pie. It is really frustrating to know that in order to finally get real, live high speed internet, we'd have to sell the house we have lived in for 20 years and move just up the road. Actually, it is ridiculous.

| reply to SatelliteGuy I understand your frustration completely, being an installer my self for several residential and commercial satellite services. All I can say is that I learned a long time ago that it was worth my time to print out a little sheet of satellite do's and donts. Before I even take my tool box out of my truck sit down with the customer, go over it. Just the basics, also ask them if they have a full understanding of the particular service they signed up for. If I find that they just don't understand anything, I call in and ask that another installer be assigned to do the job, politely tell the customer that there has been some mistake and that they need to contact the dealer/ISP or person who sold them the product and bid my fare well. Better to have an angry person in your face once than to have an angry calling your cell or office all day long yelling at you for $#%! That is not your responsibility.

Move. Good idea, I, all my neighbors, and everyone I know should just pack up and sell all of our land and move, even though many of us have lived here our entire lives. Then all you city folk can pay a lot more to have much more of your groceries shipped in from overseas. But I better not hear you complaining about that either. Or the price of gas, taxes, or anything else for that matter. Actually I am tired of hearing complaints about that stuff too. As stated, not all of us are "hicks" or city folk out here by choice for a "simpler" way of life. Stuff is certainly not "simple" here.
Myself, I've lived on my place 35 years. I purchased my land from my mother, who had lived here over 60 years. Most of my neighbors have lived on or work on the same property their parents and families have owned for several decades.
We have no right to complain about a product we find abysmal? Really? Do you use the product you install as your only source for Internet? So if some people hold an hour plus time and again and get a call dropped and have to start over, they shouldn't complain? If service drops to unusable levels, they shouldn't complain? There are ignorant people, yes, I will agree with you, but not all of this is the customer's fault, not entirely. The limitations are clearly spelled out, often in tiny print. And I suspect that an average Joe has no idea how much they download in a day, so if they do see a data limit, they have no clue. Luckily, I found something better where I live, so I am free from satellite. And I live much farther out in the stix than most people that think they are rural. I pay a lot more than I'd like, but at least it works now. The actual service, I have no complaints with now.
It looks really professional for people in the service industry to be complaining in an area that is around to help those that you service by the way. Reminds me of a show I saw a couple days ago. Hidden camera restaurant something or other. Waitress was dealing with a not too terrible customer, talking with coworkers, then went over to another table of customers and started telling them how terrible the other customers were. Like they should hear that.

Although he did make a good point about the BBB. only Hughesnet could get an A+ with all the complaints....Only because Hughes PAYS the BBB annual fee to send them all the complaints. the BBB doesn't mediate.

| reply to SatelliteGuy It should be noted that the original posters attitude and arrogance typifies Hughesnet in it's entirety, the company as a whole.
And just think, your patronage and money puts food on this guys table... You'd think a little gratitude would be in order...
Buyer beware.
