Re: OT: You guys be good - In China for the week Shanghai is nice, but it really isn't a good example of China. A good salvation to Expats since there is enough western food (a city with 2 hooters is always top on my list).
Polution is getting so bad, spent 2 weeks in Chengdu about a month ago and it was bad enough to kill anyone. Construction, polution and traffic, great combination. Xian is pretty bad too, Beijing is hit or miss, and last time I was in Guangzhou it was actually pretty good. -- This post is made with meat biproducts. |

You can buy standalone AC units (which is what most people do) and install in a particular room. In the winter, the in-laws wear their winter coats indoor and use eletrical heaters (sparingly) in the bedroom. They must be a bit poorer than my wife's. I've never seen an apartment/condo without split AC systems that have heat function. They live in old apartment complex that was part of 5 or 6 buildings. The building use to have a separate radiator type heating for the entire campus but when that heating complex broke down it was never fixed so people relied on coal heating for each room. Coal in a bucket. Ever since coal has been banned for indoor use, they basically relied on their winter coats or electric heater.
The AC unit was an after-market that they installed for one room so they could keep cool during the humid hot summer nights. They could have bought a AiO heat/cool unit but I guess it was money they didn't want to spend. |
