[Serious] Another loss to cancer...

You may remember Rockie from this thread »[Chat] A new addition to our family. or Sadie from this one »Stray dog story with a happy ending, well Dianne Watson, was the lady who walked Rockie when he lived in the "safe house" at the Arlington Animal Shelter and she was the one who wrote his "write up". The combination of the picture of him, with his bent ear and her description, made him irresistable to me and I pouted until my wife let me adopt him. More at his link if you are so inclined.

Dianne followed up on Rockie calling me several times to check on Rockie and we developed a friendship both having a strong love for dogs. We kept in touch every month or so by email and I was on her rescue mailing list, even though we already had two dogs and didn't have room for and could not afford another one. I figured I may get lucky and find somebody who could help out. One day, a year or some years later, I was at the vet with Rockie, I was over listening to the lady at the counter talking to the vet tech and noticed she sounded like Dianne so, I asked. It was, so I reintroduced Rockie and introduced myself since it was our first face to face. It was so nice...

Sometime later, I suck at time, I don't recall the exact details we spoke about a stray we had both seen in the lot across the street from my house, lots of details on that at Sadie's link above. Long story short, thanks to Dianne's guidance and advice, I was able to rescue this dog who had been running wild for about two years, evading the Arlington Animal Services folks and find her a home! Having that dog come to me and let me, let me touch her and put a lead on her was one of the best feelings I recall, in my life and I'm coming up on 58 soon, so...

Dianne and her husband moved away shortly after that and we didn't communicate as often. Now I wish we had. Dianne rescued more dogs than I can mention, she drove more miles to save dogs than I can imagine, she put in more hours cleaning kennels, walking shelter dogs, doing write-ups, organizing rescues and I'm sure so many other things I'm not thinking about or mentioning. I just want to say thank you Dianne.

R.I.P. to your wonderful friend, Michael. Trust me, she is getting her joy in being greeted by all her wonderful four-legged friends who have already passed on and were there to greet her on her passing.

My sympathies to you and to all her knew and loved Dianne, and who appreciated all the work she did to rescue our wonderful four-footed friends.
