I appreciate your help but the AVDC110 does not use drivers. It is a stand alone device.

If there were a video signal on the fire wire port it would have passed that signal along to my video editing computer via its fire wire connection to the AVDC110.

Which is what I did when using analog out. You tell the AVDC110 to use its analog circuit.

To use digital on the fire wire ports you switch it to digital.

It is internally powered IF using a 6 pin fire wire port as well. Using the 8300HD's fire wire port provided no power. Even with the external power supply, the AVDC110 was working, no video on the 8300HD's fire wire port.

I'll always read more information but I'm pretty sure the fire wire port while "enabled" is not porting any video/audio to it from the video signal inside the 8300HD.

I found the directions to access each diagnostic screen. Streaming to the fire wire port is off.

However I also found out that it being off might have to do with the video format setting. Of course copying from HD source digitally is frowned upon. So maybe, not sure, setting the video down to 480i or even 720p seems to be a solution.

Some have reported it works when doing so.

It isn't that big of a deal at the moment as college basket ball finals are on.

But the settings for what is and is not enabled for streaming should not depend on the cable being plugged in.

Did before when there was no signal coming through and into the AVDC110.

When I get a chance I'll try reducing the resolution and test it.

on the motorola's it said disabled until a firewire cable was plugged in.

It is possible we're talking about two different things.

What video could be streamed to the firewire port is different than the general condition of that same port.

Even if the port is in general enabled content still has to be sent to it.

I know as wasn't able to transfer anymore when I upgraded to vista. The last drivers I knew of worked on Windows XP.

My digital to analog, analog to digital and digital to digital conversion box sees no signal on the fire wire port at any resolution. It is not dependent on drivers.

I have Windows XP Media Center for one of my old laptops. I suppose I'm into it this far what's a little dual booting amongst friends.

Had forgotten what a nightmare XP Media Center is when it comes to endless updates.

I guess this is progress. The various driver packages at least install 2 of the four drivers. Have this now.

Managed to capture a few seconds via CapHDVS but it crashes.

There is still no visible signal on the firewire port. Trying VLC does not work as there is no video signal.

When it is all said and done however even IF I can figure out why CapDVHS is crashing after a few seconds, and others report the same issue with CapDVHS, this is probably a way more practical and stable avenue down which to travel.

Can use a laptop so no need to do any rearranging of how home theater setups, could be used on more than one laptop, grab the HDMI output and forget about it....

Word of caution there, the description states it'll capture unencrypted HDMI data however HDCP likely won't handshake from the box to this adapter.

Sorry to jump in a little late to the thread, but I've been using another option to get video off the DVR, AVerMedia's Game Capture HD.

It's made to record component video from the game systems (Wii,PS3,XBox) but works just as well will with a cable box. I originally used a USB3 stick until I hooked up a Fantom Black USB3.0 drive to it. You can also install a laptop drive inside and then transfer the .mp4 files over via USB stick. Just be sure to upgrade the firmware to get the latest features and fixes. It originally used to record .avi files and you had to convert them with a small piece of software from AVerMedia on your computer, along with it sometimes not detecting (dropping) the component source while you were already recoding something. I don't use it as much anymore after getting an HDHomeRun Prime, but after the latest fixes I haven't had any problems with it.

you might have the same problem I had where Cox put 5C protection on the local channels even though they are supposed to be copy freely, so your only workaround is analog copy.
