The department we need to contact is closed today. I'll have a tech work this tomorrow morning. Expect an update between 6-9am PST

It appears that Verizon did a total disconnect, instead of just discontinuing billing as I requested. I spoke to Alex this morning, who stated that you would have to submit a whole new order for service, and that I would have downtime. I then called DSL Extreme billing to see how they would handle this, since they already billed my account, and I had less than 1 day of service. They informed me that I would be billed again for the new order. This is unacceptable service for a situation which is no fault of my own.

Wait, what? I'm not in Billing but there must've been a misunderstanding. You won't be charged twice, that'd just be silly. Reconnect orders don't have any cost to them, in and of themselves; I'll poke a Billing supervisor to have that Billing rep corrected.

This is exactly why I fear having to contact Verizon after my DSLX activation (scheduled for 3/10). My service with VZ for 12 years has been trouble-free, except for the few times I needed to talk to CS, when more often than not they screwed up. I set both of my VZ contact emails to be non-VZ, and the day after the switchover, I'm planning to check my bill at »my.verizon.com in the hope of seeing a billing change, before contacting them. According to the post at »Re: Just Signed Up - Switching From Verizon Dry Loop there's a good chance it will happen automatically.

Edit: Was just switched over at about 10 PM PST, 2013-03-06, about 3 days ahead of the scheduled date. Will start watching »my.verizon.com over the next few days to see if it shows anything. If it doesn't show anything by 3/11 (day after official activation), I'll call them.

As indicated above, my DSL was switched over at about 10 PM PST 2013-03-06 (indicated by my connection going down and not being able to restore it with VZ username/password creds, but only with DSLX creds - previously, with VZ, any creds worked). At that time, my VZ email account was still working, but stopped working sometime between 3 and 8 hours after that.

Logging into »my.verizon.com and going to I Want To "View My Bill", under My Messages, there is now a message

Service & Product Activity

High Speed Internet was removed on 3/07/2013.

This change may take up to 60 days to reflect on your bill.

So far it looks like everything is happening automatically, with no need to contact them.

P.S. My DSLX email account appeared to become active immediately after signing up, even before getting my activation date or being billed, so I was able to start switching over email to the new address several days ago.
