I thought it was my modem. Checked modem and stuff, everything's fine. Was ready to call tech support. Then I thought to test my remote server. Almost full speed from it, getting ~1.7MB from 50 simultaneously connections, should be getting ~2MB. Not indicative of any serious problem. Pings are fine. No packet loss. But Speedtest.net is all over the place from 3 to 12Mbps. Bell speed test not that great either.

DSL/Montreal here.

Yup...

Even after a DHCP release and renew which typically solves any slow downs, still the same:

It's the speedtest server, at least for some of us. My connection is fine, but the TSI speed test server makes it look horrible. Make sure to choose the server manually and if you're in the GTA, try Beanfield.

You're in Toronto...manually choose the server run by Beanfield and check the results if you can.

That's the Nexicom server....but I'm getting good results on that one so looks like you've got something else going on unfortunately.

I don't think the POI is overloaded...is this the first night of this?

Try Bayfield. Getting 95% of max DL.

Rough. If you post your modem signal stats we can try to rule out signal.

Yeah, better than mine.

What's really interesting is that your ping is still good...which really makes me wonder about this. I'll post anything I can come up with, in the meantime I'd post that speedtest in the direct forum and see if they know of trouble in your area.

Hi emoci,

I'd ask that you post your account information in the direct forum as well so we can look into this for you, but before I ask that I would ask that your do another speed test and another trace router with a direct connection to your modem please.

Obviously this would be the first thing we'd ask when testing, but in this case particularly I'm a bit concerned about the loss on your first hop there.

Thank you,
Keith

Since you're watching this thread, Keith, I might as well tell you what I found out. I have MLPPP and I thought to test my connection without it. Anyway, with MLPPP I get inconsistent Speedtest.net results and less than full speed on my remote server. Without MLPPP, I get full speed everywhere. So my conclusion is that your MLPPP server is having fits right now and you should check it out.

At first I thought my problem was related to the OP even though I have DSL and he has cable, but it seems they just happened to occur at the same time by coincidence.

-edit- Scratch that. Tested again with MLPPP and everything is back to normal. But now I found out the problem might be caused by my router. So I'm connecting direct through the modem until I find a solution.

Hi Keith,

Opened a thread on TSI Direct »Really Slow on Scarlett POI

What I have found so far is that (Router or No Router in the middle), once I reset the modem I get a 2-3 hour grace period where things go back to normal.

Then Ping goes up again after that...(but of course another reset buys me another 2-3 hours).

We'll see what comes from it....

So Not sure about other people, but I am in London, around Commissioners and Adelaide area, and my upload speed has been terrible.
I was getting around 34/1 on speedtest, but now I can't get anything to connect in the test.

Pings are normal, traceroute works, just super slow internet.
The down speed today is about 4mbit

Anyone else having issues?
Thanks!

To TSI's SpeedTest server:

To the Beconsfield server:

Don't see anything wrong other than the already known about congestion on TSI's test server, would avoid using it a test of performance in the evenings.

I am in the same area as you.
Benched my 18 meg cable last night at 3 down and 0.08 up! Netflix would crap out half the time, and internet access was slow. Awesome! (not awesome)
Widespread issues no doubt.
