@ all the speed deniers: If 50/10 is more than adequate and 1G is complete overkill then why does Verizon even bother offering 300 Meg Quantum FIOS to residential customers? According to all the flawed logic, there should be no market for such speed.

i think it's overkill, you should go back to dialup IMO. That's more than enough to read emails.

Definitely MORE than adequate, and even as one of the people in the article states.

Anyone who thinks they MUST have more, needs to go outside and kick a ball around, as I've been told before, but NOT because I THINK I need that kind of speed!! ;)

I'm perfectly happy on Charters 30/4 plan (although not at all happy with the current schemes going on at Charter) and hope they bring the 15/3 plan back.

Amen. What people are forgetting is you are limited by the other end and all the stuff in between. Youtube will still suck, your online backups will still be constrained by the other end, uploading to your web site will still be bound by their connection, etc.

Heck, we have 25/something FIOS and even working in IT and streaming Netflix, running Crashplan, etc I hardly ever max it out. That's because the other end almost never will have enough bandwidth to serve you @ 10, 20, 50, 1Gbps, etc.

None of which is remotely close to 'typical' use, nor are you the customer that an ISP is going to base their infrastructure around, no matter how much you hem and haw about your horrible internet connection.

Because it's that easy to relocate a business with one hundred employees and millions of dollars invested into plant and equipment? Give me a break....

Why don't you move to Kansas City if you feel so strongly about this issue? I bet you can move to Kansas City easier than my customer can move across town. Put your money where your mouth is.

there are lot of things i could think to do with a 100/100 or Gbps connection i couldnt do with only 10Mbps of upload

and your customers shouldnt have to share a 3Mbps connection

I work as an IT consultant with customers ranging from 2 user home offices to 1,000+ user networks, and the customers with such storage requirements can be counted on one hand. You can not credibly claim that your situation is normal or expect ISPs to scale their residential infrastructure to accommodate people like you. You aren't even the 1%, you're more like the 0.01%

Incidentally, a lot of you have no idea of just how good you have it. We have customers with 100+ employees that are forced to share 3.0/768 DSL connections, because that's all that's available/affordable at their location. You'll forgive my complete lack of sympathy if you can't get by with a lousy 50mbit/s at your house.

and thats just what you could do with it now
once every one has large connection stuff will come along to use it
