Switching to Earthlink

Just switched from TW Extreme to Earthlink Max, in Venice 90291.

Took about 15 mins on the phone, TWC rep had some trouble getting it sorted, but eventually he just rebooted the modem (remotely) and up it came. Massive packet loss for about 15 mins and then it settled down and seems to work ok.

Monthly bill gone from about $68 to $39. Will have to wait and see if the modem rental fee is still applied.

Speed gone from 30/5 to 15/2 (more like 14/1.9). This is a bit strange, it doesn't line up with the current TWC offers here.

IP address changed from a TWC one to an Earthlink one.

To save a buck it sounds good, but I couldn't go back to 15/2 from my 50/5 Ultimate plan. I also doubt that Earthlink will provide any speed higher than that unless there is a new major deal between them and Time Warner is made.

Yeah, saving a buck was my only real motivation here.

So far its working fine though, not noting the reduced speed most of the time. Routing is the same as before. Bufferbloat is more apparent but that would be likely with the lower speed cap (in that I would hit it more often).

In 6 months I'll probably switch back, hopefully there will be some good value plans then.
