Re: Car rentals

He can drop the car off at 7am Monday morning and tell them he dropped it off Saturday "on time" and they're none the wiser.

The video isn't reviewed to determine that? No GPS in the cars to see where they were at that time? That seems like a bad business if you can scam them out of time.

You're joking, right ?

My co-worker rents 2x a month from Enterprise and Hertz and not a single car has had built-in GPS. Besides, the agencies wouldn't be able to (easily) access that info. The GPS option they offer could, but how many people pay for that ? We don't....

As for video, you're suggesting that they review ~36 hours of video to see when someone returned a car ?

Odd, ALL of the cars I have rented from Enterprise had OnStar.

Not that much of a scam since the car is going to be sitting in the lot otherwise, unable to be rented anyways because the office is closed. Might as well have it out on the road.

But....you may have insurance issues if you get into an accident and the car was suppose to be back. That may be grounds for them to not pay up since you were technically not covered. Even if your personal insurance covers you, you may have problems as they usually say they cover vehicles you are renting. Getting into an accident on Sunday when it was suppose to be back on Saturday and having your rental agreement say this will cause some nightmares I believe.

Either way, most offices have wised up to this and now say anything dropped off after hours will not be checked in until the next day (incurring the charges).

Not GPS for the customer to use. GPS installed hidden in the car aka something like LoJack. All semi's have them so the companies and monitor speeds, locations, and make sure the drivers are following the laws. It's a very CHEAP service so I'd be shocked if they weren't in rental cars these days.

Edit: It appears a lot of rental cars are GPS tracked these days per a Google search.

Edit: If they can do this an extra day is peanuts!
"ABC News reports an incident where a renter was charged $450 for allegedly speeding. The tracking device was used by Acme Rent-a-Car of New Haven. The device reported that the driver exceeded the speed limit a total of three times. The driver was then fined by the rental company $150 for each offense. Having the driver's banking information, the rental company then directly charged his account."

Enterprise is open:
Friday: 730A to 600P
Saturday: 9A to 12P
Sunday: Closed

Online when scheduling a reservation (it didn't ask me for my credit card number, wtf), I put pickup 4PM Friday and drop off 4PM Saturday. It said to leave the keys in the drop box. That means I can keep it till Monday morning and only paying for a day? Price only shows for 1 day but said to put the keys in the drop box since they're closed 4PM Saturday. Will I get there tomorrow and they'll tell me to eff off?

when I worked for hertz, there was a punch clock next to the key drop
