Re: [DSL] NEW RATES - Telus

Does TekSavvy have loop bonding setup because I am too far away to get 50mbps service. I contacted Symtex however and he said they could use the Actiontech V2000H to bond two 25mbps lines. Also can one of your staff PM me for what band I am in?

I'm already a Teksavvy [West] DSL customer. Great service. And with a roommate that likes to stream all his TV, I'm glad there was an option for unlimited (which I have.)

Curious, why is there a dry loop fee? When I had Telus they never charged me that fee. This has probably been asked before, but I was wading through the new threads with price structure changes and don't remember seeing anything about this.

There has always been a dry loop fee, basically it is a fee that is charged by the ILEC for maintenance of the physical wire as you are not a customer of theirs. Normally ILEC's just drop or bundle it in with what they charge for their services.

Thanks Marc, lots of work for sure... You're the alternative out West, they're all raging at Telus for cutting their download allowance in half combined with a 5$ raise, so it's gonna be worth it!

Except that I'm getting dry loop 50/10 from Telus for $75 / month, which is only $10 more than the TSI 25/2.5 + dry loop.

I hope the CRTC decision can be reviewed because its not any better with the Shaw offerings either.

Unfortunately, barely anybody is 'raging' although they should be.
I filed a CCTS complaint and asked for anyone else doing so to contact me ... got crickets.

There's nothing the CCTS can do about the lowered caps except if you're in a contract.

I would have been all over it if my contract wouldn't have been up by the time anything was done about it. Not to mention that they're not charging overages either.

If/when that happens and people are actually affected by it then I'm sure you'll hear more of an outcry.

Hey Gang,

Here's what we're looking at for Telus territory out west.

6 mbps
300 Gigs - $29.99
Unlimited - $34.99

15 mbps
300 Gigs - $39.99
Unlimited - $47.99

25 mbps
300 Gigs - $44.99
Unlimited -$54.99

unlimited usage between 2am and 8am

Thanks Marc.

Wish we could have gotten something cheaper from the CRTC for the 6meg plan.

That being said thanks for low prices on the other plans

Telus DSL rates are decent

I'm curious, is there no 10 Mbps tier in Telus territory? Also, are these the same as the existing speed tiers there, and if so, does it mean their profiles all stay the same? So, they just get their rates changed, but nothing needs to be done on the line?

The reason I ask is because of the cable threads. The speed profiles are changing.

Cable speeds are changing in the East not on Shaw. For Shaw the only speed change Marc mentioned was the addition of the 50/3 and 100/5 tiers.

Re: [DSL] NEW RATES - Telus

Those prices look good, Marc. I don't suppose the upload speed changes at all? Telus is still being stingy on the upload.

Looks like it's probably time to switch to VDSL. Anyone know of a simple VDSL modem that can be put in bridge mode? No sense paying for router / wireless that'll never be used.

Hi Marc

I know it is available from Telus, did the pricing not come down from Telus yet?

The one that is being used right now is the Zyxel VSG1432. The one from Teksavvy comes with the stock firmware from the vendor so it is one click away from being bridged. As far as I have seen the modem only version is only about $10 cheaper if you can find it.

I did hear back. We do have access to the 50 meg tier. The rates are not "final" so I'll see what I can do.
