So I would have thought, which is why I tried with Firefox--and Opera, too, as I recall--first a few times, with considerably less success--so I stopped trying them. IE might as well be good for something, and this is as good as anything. It's been awhile since I last had to do this though--maybe now any browser is as good as any other.

Well after testing this possible solution further with the firewall blocking the internet and then turning it on (No Connection showing) I opened IE and it would not connect.

Time it was blocked was approx 6 hours.

Oh well.

Again thanks for your suggestions.

Have you tried disabling the connection as suggested at the hardware level rather than the winsock/firewall level?

That still gives the no connection error. Wow.
You can always look at cleaning or resetting the connection/dns cache etc to see if it helps, but if you are happy as you are I'll move on.

I did do a flush and it was still a no go.
