after I've downloaded/uploaded everything needed (ie cloud backup) and played around with some extreme tests (stram full bluray through web) there weren't any things that took up more than 50down and 10 TBH

I can vouch for this. The upside is you get more work done and less time fiddling with network settings and the like.

That's not the point. You can't do everything in one day. Anyway, the bar should be set so the minimum is 50Mbps and 100Mbps is available to almost everyone with good pricing and no caps instead of 1Gbps for a small few.
