Shaw's 50/3 vs Telus 50/10

Has anyone had a chance to compare Shaw's 50/3 vs Telus 50/10 package, and can you chime in.

I am on Shaw's bb50 plan, and noticed Telus has a similar package, but with a Monster upload speed.

When ever shaw gets to rolling out there upgrade. I believe there 50 package will only receive a 5mbps bump from 3. So I am pretty curious sense this is in my area.

if the telus 50 is available in your area, i would get it, my friend just upgraded the other day and he send me results getting 52 down 12 up consistently, +your not sharing with your neighboors anymore, that 50 down 12 up is there for you 24/7 whenever you need it

Biggest variable is limited availability. They aren't offering the 50Mb to much of their footprint. Even the 25Mb is limited a fair amount. You need to be fairly close to a remote to get the 25 or 50Mb profile.

In general Telus' connections seem to have less jitter and suffer less from congestion, but of course it varies from area to area. Their West Coast routing is also better than Shaw's now but it has caused their East Coast routing to suffer somewhat.

Also if you like to run your own router you have to take into account that Telus shoves a modem/router combo down your throat. The router section of it is pretty bad if you want to do anything that requires you to log into its web interface.

It is possible to use your own if you can find the information but there is a limited selection that will work with Optik TV if you are planning on switching both services over and using your own router.

Another needless victim of Shaw's preposterous advertising.

Of course robots can talk, but only if you want them to.

Trying to "bridge" Telus' modem/router combo is very finicky compared to Shaw where you can just ask customer service to bridge your Cisco or SMC modem.

Its not finicky, you just have to have the correct login for the Actiontec. If using a modem's web interface is finicky then maybe you shouldn't be bridging.

Well I've had problems with Shaw bridging too so that would be nothing new for me. One time I was half way around the world and shaw decided to do a firmware upgrade or something on my modem and it rested back to NAT mode and bam. My remote access to my home computer was gone. Not much I could do about it on the other side of the world. Boy did they ever get an earful when I got back and it took 4 tries before I finally found someone who knew what they were doing to actually confirm I had been reset and to change it back to bridging.

If you rely that heavily on your connection, you should be on the biz side. Haven't heard of anyone on the biz side having the modems being flipped back from bridge. Few times on the residential, but they don't care as much on residential as it's generally not as big of a deal.

I'll consider telus, when they stop wanting to charge me $96/month per PC for an internet connection. Dedicated fiber is cheaper at that point.

Well the login isn't always available, from what I've seen. That's why the Telus forum used to be full of posts asking for logins until the rules banned it.

It is easily available, and there is another way to do it. I bridged my .55 Actiontec with my regular login and its not hard to find the correct URL to use to do it that way either..

Monthly price per PC $56.95 $83.95 $98.95 $166.95

They've raised the price since I last looked, $99/month/PC, for the cheapest plan with a static IP.

And then the fine print at the bottom
"Static IP addresses are not available "

I think that just refers to the fact that Telus' static IPs are still assigned via DHCP.

Yeah, I think so too, I just found it contradicting to the IP Addresses up above saying 2 Static lol
