[Pricing] Employee discount transfer?

My current verizon discount is via my wife's old job (she no longer works there). However, my employer offers the same discount (different employer).

I found »www.verizonwireless.com/discounts

But I'm wondering if registering my company discount will:

a. cause my contract to renew/reset
b. force me to a shared data plan

If either of those are going to happen, then it looks like I'm going to change carriers. They're expensive enough with the discount. Without it, they can forget it.

It wont do either but if the account is in her name you cant apply a discount in your name. Have them change the account to your name then apply for the discount

I believe the account is in my name, which is odd since they let her discount apply to the bill. Is there a way to check who the primary account holder is via their website? If it's her, I assume I need her there when we swap the owner and apply the different discount?

When i log on to my verizon account it says right up top that im the account owner (my girlfriend is an account manager), so unless that was setup wrong it should say. If not a call in can find that out easily, but ya, if it is in your name and they had a discount for her work, that shouldnt have worked even

Well to be fair, this account was created like 11 years ago So who knows how broken their system was back then or what it allowed...

Lol good point there. The curent system wont let a discount be applied if the employee/customer information do not match. I get to answer this one quite often at work.

Shhhh i didnt tell ya that

Well I started to use that discount web site, and now it's locked me out of the account It keep redirecting me to a page that says:

Unfortunately, we are unable to identify your correct employee discount at this time

Yeah I had clicked the link but not completed it because I got scared by the massive legalese agreement I had to accept

I just did it and now I show the 20% discount. 2% less than my wife's previous one, but that should be barely noticeable. Do these discounts usually only apply to the "base" part of the plan? E.g. ours current bill says:

Nationwide Talk & Text FS 700
03/01 - 03/28
$90.00
22% Access Discount
03/01 - 03/28
-$19.80
Email & Web Unlimited
03/01 - 03/28
$29.99
20% - Feature Discount
03/01 - 03/28
-$6.00

I'm assuming this would change to $18 and $6 discounts? The website now says:

Monthly discount for eligible services:up to 20% for XXXXX CORPORATION employees.

Does this mean it's only 20% off the $90? I hope not, that means my bill is going up $8/mo

Thats how its been for a while now. Example: im on the share everything talk/text/1gb of data. I get my discount on that portion ($50 - 20%), not on the line access (40 for smartphones/30 for basic/etc).

Why would it make your bill go up that much? 22% vs 20% like you said is only a buck or 2

Because it seems the previous discount applies 22% to the $90 and 20% to the $30. Now I'm only getting 20% on the $90, so I lose 2% on that (NBD) but the entirety of the 20% discount of the $30.

It should unless your discount does not have an entitlement to feature discounts. To find that out you might have to call in. To see if you can see it online, do the following:

Log in to your my verizon. Just below the phone, you will see a grid of boxes with "I want to..." above it. Below the grid, click on "More Actions". Then click on "View documents/reciepts", its the second from the bottom under the profile section. Then scroll down on the next page and look for "Promotion/Offer Added to Account" (it should have a date next to it, but click right on where it says "Promotion/Offer Added to Account"). It will then open a pdf, and on mine it shows the 20% discount.

It should show the feature discount if it is going to apply one (mines shared data so i dont see that line or discount, but the 29.99 unl data is elig for discounts if the discount has feature discounts)

Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately when I go there it only shows my bills. I don't see one for the promotion/offer added to account. I'll check back tomorrow, it may not show up right away?

Yeah for some reason the rep I spoke to was unable to locate my specific discount, but I'll call tomorrow after it's been applied to the account over night and hopefully it's an easy lookup then

Thanks again!

Why do you want to change the discount to another name? if they're still giving you the discount and never asked for new proof just leave the discount alone instead of being worried about being renewed or put into a new package. As they say- if its not broken, don't "fix it"

Pretty sure he did because it was time to re validate the discount and since wife doesnt have that job and/or account is in his name he couldnt just continue the previous discount

*ding*

I felt slightly bad for keeping her discount as she's been a stay-at-home mom for quite some time; however, I thought the discounts were the same (I didn't know hers was 2% more heh) so I figured to VZW it was a wash. I heard VZW will be asking people to authenticate it, so I figured this was an opportune time to do so before I got the notice/request.
