| [iO] HBO Sign Off?? WTF Anyone ever see this?
»www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIsWpyt_···&index=1 »www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxFl5ps5SdE
Is this the new "we are experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by" screen or do they really sign off for a couple of hours a day?
My wife has been home sick since Saturday and said she noticed this a bunch of times on different HBO channels. |

 | Yes, it happens, it was probably a transmission test, different things, satellite test, timing test ( daylight savings time), etc. |

 | reply to happy4ya It is usually listed in the channel guide - Off The Air - and it is usually an hour or so. |

 | reply to happy4ya Remember when most all channels used to go off the air from 2-4 am until 5 or 6? |

 | said by Fallen_Anjel:Remember when most all channels used to go off the air from 2-4 am until 5 or 6? In the late 70s and early 80s, HBO wasn't a 24 hour a day service. It used to sign off in the early morning and sign on in the late afternoon. It began running 24 hours a day on weekends only in the early 80s, followed shortly by 24x7 thereafter. |

 | I remember when they use to play the national anthem just before the channel signed off for the night. -- Email/MSN: Michael at hardwaregeeks.comAIM: MikeR35292 |

Cable systems can use these tests to set their equipment up for best performance. Not as important with digital transmission as it was with analog. |

Really, so why do crop and not show any new movies OAR? because a majority of viewers want their screen completely filled. i agree, its annoying to watch a 2.40:1 movie pan/scanned for a 1.78:1 screen (16:9) although its not as bad as watching a 2.40:1 pan/scanned for a 1.33:1 screen (4:3). -- Suffolk County NY Police Feed - »www.scpdny.com PS3 Gaming Feed - »www.livestream.com/elitedata |

 | I prefer the HBO style of full screen HD. And the HBO HD looks much better then the other HD movie channels. |

dm145 join:2009-12-12 Clifton, NJ | reply to IllIlIlllIll it was a rhetorical question
and if HBO truly cared about sending the best quality signal it would give us OAR |
