 | Ridiculous slow speeds. I have had knology for years. We recently moved back and got hooked up in Dec. At first it was awesome. 35mb dn 4mb up. Considering I only had AT&T at our previous address. It was like apples to dead over ripe molded oranges.
Then Mid February.... My speed are slowly diminishing. The worst was tonight.

I called their tech support and they said they were updating and splitting nodes. Okay this is a good thing and DOCSIS 3.0 finally arriving. They do not have a estimate to how long this is going to go on.
Even in 2010 when Knology did an upgrade it wasn't this bad. Anyone else had issues or know how long this is going to affect our area? -- They came... They saw... pointed at our antenna aray...and laughed hysterically. |

1 edit | Well after calling techs again, their stating another 2 weeks or so. Also DOCSIS 3.0 is already available in the Huntsville area. I was told in Dec. when I first got hooked up that it wasn't. Can't wait going to see if I can get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I don't think I really need it considering I think my current modem can handle 50mb being a DOCSIS 2.0 right? From what I understand anyway, anything over 50mb would need more than one channel.
Crazy as it sounds in desperation, I unplugged my D-Link router and hit reset on the modem then unplugged it. Once everything is backup I get pretty good speeds for about an hour or so, sometimes longer.
I deleted the before test but it was 9mb dn 2mb up.
After resetting modem and router:

At this point I will take it. |

From what I understand anyway, anything over 50mb would need more than one channel. A DOCSIS 2.0 modem can only handle running on one downstream channel. The theoretical bandwidth of a QAM256 channel used for DOCSIS is 42.88mbps. The actual real world speed of that channel is only about 38mbps when you factor in overhead and other factors.
To summarize, your DOCSIS 2.0 modem is going as fast as it will ever go right about now. You won't be able to get any faster out of that modem. If you want faster speeds, you will need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem which is capable of bonding multiple channels into a single pipe. -- Dan Della Terza WOW! mwoodj join:2001-10-27 Madison, AL | reply to VooDooVonz My speed has fluctuated by a lot the last couple of months. It is usually the great speed that I am used to but it can drop down to unacceptable levels throughout the day. I have also noticed that my IRC connection to Freenode drops out multiple times every day. My Freenode connection used to go uninterrupted for weeks at a time. I know some people had issues with Knology internet service but, for me, it was stable and fast consistently. For years there were only a handful of times that any major issues occurred. It seems like that stability is gone right now. I hope WOW! can get all the kinks worked out soon and that they don't institute some of the policies subscribers are worried might be coming. |

 | Yeah for a while my speeds (well latency at least) stabilized. Now it is back to square one. The only issue is WOW is the only provider in my area. After talking with my neighbor we are thinking of petitioning for another provider to look at our area. I hate going door to door but social networking might be a better option.
We are looking at making fliers and putting them up in local businesses with contact info once it is in place. -- They came... They saw... pointed at our antenna aray...and laughed hysterically. |
