Teksavvy POTS ~20% price increase

said by TSI Marc:

The Local Phone rate ... will go to $25/mth.

Conversation lost here: »[TekTalk] NEW TekTalk PROMO - Digital Home Phone
but it seems worthy of its own thread. For Teksavvy POTS/DSL customers, this is yet another price hike. This time of an 'essential service' - so, take note.

For those of us uninterested in VOIP (for whatever reason) this is bad news - negating any promo offered with the new DSL rates. :-(

Pots Telephone in 2008 22.15 + Tax (Basic Phone + Touch Tone)
Pots Telephone in 2013 22.28 + Tax (Basic Phone + Touch Tone)

So in 5 years the price went up $0.13

I can understand a price increase of $4, when considering Bell raises rates what $1 every 6 months?

It's a resold Bell service and they charge $29 so it's still cheaper, even better with a feature.

OP please wake up !

Bell raised what TSI has to pay them for POTS to resell.

And TSI most likely has an NDA with Bell about all of this.

What part of 'not operating at a loss' do you not understand ?!

And at least the customer does not have to deal directly with the stupidity/dishonesty/incompetence (pick one or more) of Bell.

As for TSI's rates for TekTalk, that's a different topic, as they DO have SOME control over THAT.

I see that you really want to have another separate post (as you already made your point in the Tektalk one).

Here is my math:

$25-$22.28 = $2.72

$2.72/$22.28*100=12%

and this is over 4-5 years ... similar increase as inflation

Your 20% approximation is waaay off .... about 40% off

Can't say I like the increase, but I can certainly understand if Bhell is increasing the cost to Teksavvy. It still costs a lot less than POTS straight from Bhell, and considering my bad experience with VoIP in the past, I want nothing but POTS.

Cutting the cord also isn't an option since I'm one of those few people left who doesn't have (and doesn't want) a cellphone.

As did I, I believe.

But any time that anyone wants to whine about what TSI charges for POTS and the associated calling features, just remember what BH$ELL would charge if you went straight to THEM, plus you would have a FREE bonus of all the BS you could ever tolerate.

prices don't remain static over an indefinite period of time.
costs go UP.

note: UP

do you honestly expect tsi to not raise their own rates accordingly when they get charged INCREASES by bell ?

if you're so perturbed that they won't offset (e.g., take a continued loss on providing you with POTS) your cost, go find another provider at the rate you've decided will remain fixed indefinitely.

It's a resale service not regulated by the CRTC so Bell can charge whatever they want for it.

Yeah it sucks but it's only a couple bucks more... and it's still way cheaper than Bell or Videotron

This just negates any saving from the reduction in internet rates ...

Whatever they want until they hit the breakdown threshold where their remaining POTS subscribers will start deciding that it costs way more than it is worth. (Well, most already think so but are still too affraid to switch to something else... but their day will come eventually.)

There are reductions relating to DSL Teksavvy rates lol? Last I checked the only savings offered are to be had at the time of subscribing, ie the install fee... Which aren't in effect yet either...

so your saying the promo prices are going to be permanent?

Good news if so!

Say I wasn't on DSL with you guys yet. But next yr when the promo rates are over, Are you saying I still won't be paying the higher regular rates if I sign up then?

that's right. once you have the rates.. you have the rates.

That's what I meant when I wrote: Promo rates are for the duration of your service

Sounds good.

Thanks Marc.

But what I am trying to get it as, if someone signs up when the promo is OVER.

Then they will be paying the higher regular rates, instead of the promo rates.

Meaning you can't be saying all DSL rates went down, cause if someone doesn't sign up right away, they rates will be going up for some! (not that they would know that, unless they read these forums though)

I dont believe the promo will end. But there's no way to know for sure.

When we go live with this stuff.. there wont be a promo listed anywhere.. it will just be the price.. same as what others appear to be doing.

a permanent promo is a good way to put it.

I hope it sticks too.. or else what you'd end up seeing is something closer to the regular rates posted pretty much from all independents.
