No Cable For 12 Hours

My cable went out yesterday morning at 10AM. Did some checking with a neighbor and his was out also.

Was looking around outside and mine and the neighbor's were disconected at the main line. Call for a tech to come out this morning. Meanwhile my neighbor new somebody at the local office and found out they were checking the main for backflow of some kind. I decided to let the tech come on out. He hooked some kind of meter on my line and showed be the bar graph of interference.

He started replacing splitters outside and in the house and the fittings on the wall receptacle and the wire from the receptacle.

The interference dropped about 70%. Did some more tightening and replace a few more wires and got it down to about 10% from being almost a straight line on the graph. He said that would be low enough to hook me back at the main line.

The wiring was installed when I moved in 78 so I have no doubt it needs replacing. After all the work I can't really tell much difference in the picture quality and my internet is still at 25mbps down and 3.6mbps up.

What I am wondering is would it be worth replacing all the wiring in the attic with the new R56 or whatever is the newest?

Most likely not if everything is fine now.
