Changed e-mail servers - the good and the bad

I got the e-mail from Verizon today about changing my incoming and outgoing e-mail servers.

I successfully changed the servers to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net on my Thunderbird and Outlook accounts on my desktop computer, on my wife's account on her computer and iPad, and on my iPod Touch.

The good news is that new mail messages now move into my inbox much faster than they did before.

The bad news is that all the old mail messages on my wife's iPad disappeared, although they were still on her computer. It turns out that the settings for Thunderbird on her computer did not leave the messages on the Verizon server so apparently they got dropped from the iPad listing when I changed servers.

The only work-around that I could figure out (she really prefers the iPad for e-mail) was to forward any important messages from her computer to the iPad.
