[Rant] got cut off

This morning,I came home from work to find my internet not working.I ran the diagnostic on win7 and it said modem connectivity problems and to reset modem..I tried that to no avail and figured it was just down for "maint" or whatever. So,I went to bed..when I got up it was still the same,so I called. The tech on the phone informs me that my account has been flagged for a copyright infringment download that I,or someone using my connection has done..no warning just shut it off??Not saying I'm an angel on the net,but c'mon..you shut someone off on first offense?? bad business...been a high speed customer for 13 years...I just wish they didn't have a monopoly in my area.He reset it and turned it back on,and said a letter would be in the mail explaining what it was.

if you are flagged, you are redirected to a webpage that you have to enter your account info into to reconnect

No pages would open...my internet said it was connected but I couldn't do anything on it.

Looks like it's time to invest in a VPN. I know I'm going to.

So does this mean Suddenlink is participating in the six strikes policy?

I imagine if your connection was disabled until you agreed to the infringement notice, it might appear like you were cut off.

Out of curiosity, are you using Suddenlink dns servers, or something like OpenDNS or Google? It's likely that if you aren't using their dns servers, you might not be re-directed properly and wouldn't see the notice page.

It seems to be a one strike policy.

Like anklosaur suggests, reset your DNS settings and reload. It should take you first thing to a page. Now if you closed off it w/out even realizing what it was, I have no idea if you can get it back.

Speaking from experience here, lol, got a "strike" a couple months ago and was locked out until I accepted the warning from whoever copyright I infringed.
